And here comes ljay889, beating adamgreer by a nose. LOL.
I guess this means that Alice Ripley has a hidden profile here?
^Facebook, I believe (though I'm not one of the privileged 5,000 friends with her).

Yes, I am guessing it is facebook. She actually must have two pages though; there is Alice Ripley, and there is Alice Friggin Ripley.

PLEASE LET THIS MOVIE HAPPEN!
Cast should be
Diana-Renée Zellweger or Zeta Jones maybe? I dunno. Streep is always what I wanted, screw the age
Dan-Patrick Wilson-would be perfect!
Gabe-Sorry, Zac Efron seems like a good idea to me.
Natalie-Lea Michele really does have the chops, but they would have to make her more ugly, less annoying and melancholy
Doctors-Robert Downey Jr? Kevin Spacey?
Henry-Adam Brody if he can sing
Matthew Morrison doesn't read 40-ish or old enough to have a teenage kid.
Ellen Page would pull of the Natalie attitude if she could sing it.
Haha, Henry is Adam Brody, you're right- well, Adam Chanler-Berat is Adam Brody.
They wouldn't have to make Lea Michele more ugly. Meghann Fahy is a good deal better looking than Lea and she makes it work.
I wouldn't be surprised if Zac Efron were cast in something like this, but it would upset me. I really don't like him.
Oh, and no thank you to Zellweger or Zeta-Jones for Diana.

I really hope this gets made!! Borrowing some ideas/throwing in my own, I'd love to see:
Mary Louise Parker/Patrick Wilson as Diana/Dan...I know this is basically an Angels in America redux but they have such great on-screen chemistry!
or
Gwenyth Paltrow/Toni Collette and Hugh Grant...I think Hugh Grant could be great if the music is in his range
Would love to also see:
Zach Braff as the Doctors
Zac Efron as Gabe (it would draw in younger viewers and he does have a decent voice.)
Anna Kendrick as Natalie
Darren Criss as Henry

"Natalie: Watch this one turn out to be some tween poptart...like Taylor Swift, Taylor Momsen, Justin Bieber..you know...the usuals"
I think Bieber would make a terrific Natalie. He's absolutely perfect!
I'd rather see someone like John Cameron Mitchell direct this.

I would guess that the two doctors will be played by different actors if a movie version does get made.
While I think Toni Collette would be great I would also guess that it would be seen as too close to Tara for it not to be appear to be too little of a stretch for her. I know the characters suffer from totally different personality/mental disorders, but many people would look only at the surface details (suburban family being "torn apart" by mom's mental disorder) and immediately jump to that conclusion.

I want to make a film of Next To Normal, too - and it's as much a reality as the Rob Reiner COMMENT - no deal, no rights purchased, no nothing. But - discuss away. :)
it would be cool to see this done with a black family ,asian or latino family! But if the movie version MUST be made I really want Aaron Tveit , Jennifer damiano and Alice Ripley to reprise their roles!I think movie musicals work better with the original cast (if possible.)usually, not the flavor of the week(justin beiber and Lea Michele i'm looking at you!)but why can't they just also record the last broadway performance of N2N?

"I think movie musicals work better with the original cast (if possible."
Oh yeah, the original cast is always the best choice if you want your movie to be successful (or even good). Just look at how well that worked for Rent and The Producers.
i thought Rent was good but i can't say the same for the Producers since I never saw it.But with Phantom of the Opera they picked the wrong people who never done the production before.I know "Stars"pull money in but that dosn't mean it's gonna be automatically good.Look at Mama Mia.
Mamma Mia made a boat load of money -- and IF they are going to make a movie musical, THAT'S what they plan to do. And you can trust that many of the roles WILL be names. Not all of them, but enough of them.
The OBC has no box office draw whatsoever. No one has heard of ANY of them.
Why does Natalie need to be "unattractive" at all? She shouldn't be all glammed up, but there is nothing saying she isn't attractive. (And for the record, I think Lea Michelle is a horrid idea, acting wise.)
I think at least Alice Ripley should be cast. The rest of the cast can be the box office pulls. I'm a little worried because some of the songs take place in different places (i.e. It's gonna be good, Why Stay?, Make up your mind/ Catch Me I'm Falling?, etc.) And a split screen would be tacky. And a song like "Who's Crazy" the back up (meaning the rest of the cast with glasses) might be taken out and that's one of my favorite parts. So it can be done right, keyword CAN.

Anne Kendrick for Natalie.
THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE. Like seriously.
Robert Downey & Toni Collette would be just about perfect, as would Anna Kendrick. I could see Mark Salling as Gabe.
I think N2N would be a wonderful movie, if done right. The intimacy of the Booth Theatre made the show even more enjoyable and I'm sure that watching it in your own living room would still be an intimate experience.
Diana: Duh, Alice. She won the "friggin" Tony Award for this role. However, does Alice make a good transition from stage to film and in such a major role? I know it can be difficult for some actors.
Gabe: Lucas Gabriel. Fo sho.
Henry: Adam Chanler-Beret (sp?)
Natalie: IF Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) was a little bit older, I'd think she would be a good candidate for the role. However, I've yet to hear her sing. In the meantime... I would cast Amanda Seyfried. She sang in Mamma Mia, so we know she can sing.
I also like her acting. In my opinion, she SCREAMS "Natalie!"
Dan: ?
Doctors: ?
I don't think Alice would make the transition to film very well, but that's just my opinion.

It's absurd to think that staging that specific is going to translate to film. If they make this movie I can guarantee that part won't be there.

Sarah Hyland is currently 20. I'm curious how that is not old enough to play the high school aged Natalie. She was also in both the Off-Broadway and Broadway runs of Grey Gardens, as well as various workshops, including Bye Bye Birdie and Shrek before she moved to L.A, so I would say singing in and of itself is not a problem. Whether or not her voice is right for the role is another question, of course.
And why do people automatically assume that a split-screen is the only way to handle a song taking place in multiple locations at once. What makes movies great is that you have a variety of options available to you; fades, cross cuts, dissolves, double exposures, etc, etc. In the theatre during some sequences you can't be seeing everything all at once due to the natural limitations of the human field of vision. Your eye bounces around the stage. That's why they use lighting and staging techniques during a sequence like that to draw your focus to the person who's most important at the moment. Obviously film can make this even easier than it is on stage.

Nooooooo. This would translate horrribly to film. Nononono.
