My only disappointment is that there wasn't a "Courtney, take your break" moment
Spot on. Thanks for sharing!

I spat out my drink at Bradley, take your break. LMFAO!
Hilarious! As I watched this, I wondered how many viewers actually didn't know there was a Legally Blonde musical and those songs were not written for the sketch. :)
It was so good, I practically jumped out from my couch screaming in excitement, haha.
I definitely think it was inspired by this video.

Take note how hey ITH have the huge pencils at the beginning.

They also both have the second girl come in late, have the ensemble mess up "No one should be left alone to dress and to accessorize," and have the same circular choreography. Not to mention the set designs are practically identical. Its hard to deny that the SNL video was heavily inspired by the Red Room Legally Blonde video.

Lol, those kids are precious. Definitely cements why I thought theatre kids were weird when I was a kid. It's too bad because I missed out on so much theatre because this was my impression of what theatre was like, haha. =/

I'm still sad that I never got to see LB... I know it's not the greatest musical ever, but it brought me so much joy. At least MTV filmed it.

I've often said Courtney is the only role I'd be right for in this show. I'd gladly settle for Bradley.
I always wanted to be Margot.

spot on satire by snl
legally blonde underrated as a musical
laura bell bundy was spot on as elle woods
its good clean fun
u can often find the proshot mtv of the show online
Kind of addicted to the original video and can't stop watching it. So perfect in its imperfections. I keep thinking this is a video directed by Christopher Guest. There are just way too many subtle elements and actions that I keep seeing on repeat versions. Love all the continuity issues, especially the candles that come and go. SNL nailed this parody, though I hope the young actresses in the original celebrate their new-found fame and aren't the further butt of jokes.
I did Legally Blonde in middle school too and this was exactly what it was like.
The original is from 7 years ago (2012) and the girls are now like high school juniors/seniors or college freshmen, so they should be having good laughs on this

Is the "Girls gather around Elle jumping while she changes" required in the script? It's weird that all these scenes are staged identically.

No, it's not, I found it odd, too.
Most schools do it to hide the quick change so they can have a "reveal" moment. One of the issues with having the Broadway version readily available and well-known is that many high schools will copy all of the direction and/or choreography.
Rolling Stone recently (2021) spoke with/communicated with some of the original cast of the Red Room production - some who were unaware of the SNL sketch. The actors playing Elle, Salesgirl #2, and the red-haired girl have differing reactions to their fame/notoriety

This is one of the only times I've ever felt unclean reading a news article.
Former Cast Member: That video is deeply embarrassing and traumatizing, and why I don't perform anymore.

I'm kind of sad that more of the cast members don't find it as funny as the rest of us do. It just makes it so we're laughing at them instead of with them.
