This is going to be the most amazing thing ever. I'm getting the shakes!!
I am surprised how tight lipped the operation has been, no gens of info has came out, like a leak what the sets are like or music.
A while back one of the proposals was to enlarge The Hilton Theatre, but there seemed to be a stumbling on finance, is that still the case?
I walked by the theater today and tourists were looking at the posters laughing and making fun of it.
Kind of sums it up I think.
Is this April Fools Day?
I never thought this Sondheim show would get off the ground but.....
I am surprised how tight lipped the operation has been, no gens of info has came out, like a leak what the sets are like or music.
I've heard the idea of the stage floor rising in sections to create the facade of buildings (which are then climbed on). Don't know if that rumour is true though.
This "show" represents one of the biggest practical jokes in the history of the world.
Once all of this craziness ends, someone needs to write a book chronicling it's demise.
Paging Ken Mandelbaum. It's time for an update on Not Since Carrie.
Demise would seem to indicate it ever got off the ground.
I think this is all a dream in Julie Taymor's mind.
The early design concepts for the stage was tall skyscraper flats which had windows as light boxes and scrims onto which things could be projected or they could be lit up from behind to create a night time effect.. The would track in tilt sideways and back to create a distorted perspective of looking up. Much like the perspective in the Superman flats. They would also rotate.
Who knows what it will be with the new financing and I assume budget cuts.

When I saw Memphis and came back and said it was brilliant and definitely deserving of a Tony nod, I got laughed out here...
Break a leg Spider-man. I wish you a brilliant run.
He's the only cast member? Will he play his own instrumnents too?
If John Doyle can get Patti LuPone to play a tuba, he can co-direct with Julie Taymor, right?
Those early design concepts seem a little cheap for the budget it has.
He's the only cast member? Will he play his own instrumnents too?
The rest of his band will be part of the orchestra.
this wins for the most jaded and needlessly bitter thread. The joke is over. This show is happening and I wish it the very best. I can't wait to see it!
Not really Color. To build walls like that and to have them rotate, tilt, lean and pivot as well as track is a pretty big engineering project. That was only one part of the whole design of the set.
We will see if it is happening when it opens. Until then, I would not hold my breath.

I don't like these kind of threads. You haven't seen the show and can't form an opinion. I admit the history of this show is quite laughable, but this is just...rude. Respect what people dedicate their time to. Regardless of the budget.
I smell a pullitzer
SNAFU - Just to confirm what you wrote above - I walked by the theatre about ten minutes ago - the doors were open and they were testing some of the machinary - including the stage floor which is now one big light box. The designs you describe seem to indeed be what has been built and is now in place at the Hilton.
Such a joke, and i mean the people on here not the show.
You can tell all the drama queens on here have nothing better to do than bitch and speculate about an industry they are not a part of and have no understanding of how it works other than through messege boards and gossip sites.
Spiderman hit a few bumps along the way, as most shows do. The difference is that because Spiderman is such a huge project etc we are hearing about all the bumps it's had more than we do with the other shows.
The money is in place for the show, the set is going up and rehearsals have begun and yet people on here still bitch.
Why not wait till the show opens before you spew venom?, this show could turn out to be something wonderful, they sure as hell have a decent creative team and the music of U2 as well as a killer budget.
You all need to give it a rest and let the show do what it needs to do to get itself together.
It's such a shame when theatre fans (apparently) are so happy when they are wishing a new show to fail. That's not theatre fans, it's Michael Riedel.
So they aren't allow to form an opinion based on what they DO know? Thinking it will be a train wreck is far from WISHING it is one.
MOST folks on here (especially the ones with incredibly strong opinions) see almost every show that opens. Lots do it with an open mind.
I have little interest in seeing this. Many people feel the same way....is that so terrible??
Ah, songanddance, you could be David Stone in real life and still come off as Dame Pollyanna Happy-go-theatre.
A very good writer once stated that an intelligent gentleman displays a healthy sense of skepticism in the face of foolishness. The published facts of the Spiderman musical do nothing to allay skepticism.

Songanddance, you actually believe that there are not industry people on this message board?
Well of course! Most of the really bitter posts are from industry people.
Im sure many industry people are on here, im on here, however i also that 90 percent of this board is made up of kids.
"So they aren't allow to form an opinion based on what they DO know? Thinking it will be a train wreck is far from WISHING it is one."
Thats fine, everyone should have an opinion (even though nobody has heard a note from it, read the book etc), im not bothered about people's opinions, it's the MANY who seem to take some pleasure that (as with all shows) it could fail.
"MOST folks on here (especially the ones with incredibly strong opinions) see almost every show that opens. Lots do it with an open mind."
Open mind, on this board....ok
"I have little interest in seeing this. Many people feel the same way....is that so terrible??"
Of course not, i have no intrest in watching Memphis, however i wont bad mouth the show.
