Ashley De La Rosa was the standby for Regina in Mean Girls and she was phenomenal. Star quality to spare. She'd be a great Satine."
This is an inspired idea. She'd be incredible.
I don't see the producers spending any money on a "name" at this point- neither Olivo or Tveit got butts in the seats, it was the material, and will continue to be. I'd love to see someone like De La Rosa or Ciara Renee (whose career deserves a post-Covid bump)."
I disagree, to a certain extent, of who get buts in the seat. I loved the show but I only went to see it because of Aaron Tveit. I suspect the Karen Olivo, Tveit, Danny Burstein have fans who will go to see whatever they are in.
I vote for Ashley, the standby. I really don't want MT voices singing this. Karen was a great fit for the role, and just pop enough for me to be ok with it. Loren is practically nothing BUT a pop singing voice, and she did the role in the "Baz" show in Vegas and was fantastic, she's literally tailor made for it.

Every performer has fans, but Tveit/Olivo/Burstein (all talented, all with fan bases for sure) did not "sell tickets" in any meaningful way for this show. Burstein was out for months and it impacted sales...not at all, but even Olivo/Tveit-- the vast majority of ticket buyers have never heard of them.

She could be but she's also fantastic in her current role.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I would agree neither Karen nor Danny draw in large crowds. But Aaron absolutely draws a wider net of fans globally, thanks to Les Mis and his tv work to a less degree. Heck, I've made several trips (DC, Pittsfield, Boston) myself to see a show only because he was in it. His fanbase travels for him and sees his shows multiple times. Is he the commercial draw that Hugh is today? No, but he could get there with a good project.
But going back to Satine, I do agree that she should have a pop friendly sound / background. I think there have been some great names shared here and look forward to the announcement. But regardless, I'm going to see this show in October....for Aaron.

Which is no slight to him. He just isn't the attraction, the show is. I'd say the same about the wonderful performers in Hamilton or Come From Away or Dear Evan Hansen or Book of Mormon...
Of course, he’s talented! I just think there’s this strange obsession by a certain subset of Broadway to try and make Jeremy Jordan and Aaron Tveit to be massive stars. It’s ok to be a fan, but with that needs to come a dose of reality.

Agreed. Ask anyone that’s not obsessed with bway who these actors are and no doubt every response will be “who?” It’s not a diss, it’s just what it is. They’re not house hold names outside the theatre community. People are going to see Moulin Rouge because of the spectacle of the movie and hope it’s repeated on stage. That’s about it.

I think Robyn is a phenomenal dancer but can she sing? Or sing well enough to tackle the songs in Moulin Rouge. Karen Olivo leaves some big shoes to fill.
Patina Miller would be great. I also would be all for Amber Ardolino getting bumped up, she’s got great chemistry with Aaron Tveit and is talented as hell.
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Unless busy and previously booked, JCJ seemed to me to a great choice. Debuted on Broadway in Hamilton. Great voice, acting chops, and ready for the lead role! Re-open the show and then hand it off to some of the other mentioned women in 6 months?
Now I know that she's maybe aged out of the role. But after a couple of appearances on Stars in the House this week. I would love to see Heather Headley as Satine.

My God, Heather Headley could sing me the terms and conditions of my Apple products, and I'd pay top dollar!

OMG MJ Rodriguez PLEASE!!!!!"
An inspired choice indeed, especially given how the show's ensemble and premise play around with the gender of the patrons/club dancers. HOWEVER, my issue here is that their voice can, at times, be a bit thin and reedy, and the amount of singing that goes into this role requires some pipes and a lot of stamina, so I'm skeptical.
That being said, I would like MJ Rodriguez to appear in more theatre. I'd love to see her as either a Roxie in Chicago (in Dreamland - with Laverne Cox or Dominique Jackson as Velma) or as Jenna in "Waitress".

To hear Heather Headley sing live is a friggin treat but I think she's all wrong for Satine. There's nothing fragile or tragic about her voice- it exudes power and dominance that I don't think fits here.
MJ Rodriguez would be a fascinating idea but I agree, I don't think her voice is strong enough.
