tiny thread Jack, anyone see Jeremy Kushnier in it, i know he did it with Mel for a while.
I saw Jeremy several times on the Benny tour. I thought he was fantastic. One of the few times where I was completely convinced the person on stage was a real, breathing, interesting and very layered character, as cheesy as it sounds.
Eeesh, she was really bad. I agree with the British accent thing, that didn't work at all.

just a funny story...
She WAS awful, don't get me wrong, but during the end, when mimi is "dying"..there were these people behind me quoting spice world. It was So great after roger says MIMI!!! hearing "MA BOOTS JERRY YA WEARIN MA BOOTS!"

I saw her 2 1/2 times. The half was because she didnt make it past intermission once. At the time I was hating her performance because I think it threw the entire cast/show off. Now I just think because she got a cold or something at the beginning of her time with the show she never really gave it enough time to rest and get stronger. So she sort of limped through 6 months of shows. In the end I have to wonder if she didnt do some kind of long term damage singing like that. Perfect example of how hard it really is to sing 8 shows a week on Broadway. Especially in a show like RENT. If she had been anyone else they probably would have just cut their losses and sent her home but because of the celebrity casting factor they didnt.

I know she is awful, as I have had the displeasure of meeting her and having to endure her singing. Infact, the time I met her was on an English tv programme, she attempted to sing 'Greatest Love of All' but kept coming in on the wrong note, so refused to sing it eventually.
If she was that bad, why did you guys vote her as the best actress in a musical (or something similar) in the Broadwayworld.com awards that year?
Well I can tell you I wasnt apart of that vote. Thats disturbing.

LOL I was just about to post that how weird? That is so ugly like that. They should have every Mimi wear the same thing and I found songs of her singing but none of rent here they are:
http://www.melanie-b.org/downloads/ I am about to listen to one song well hope to find out if they have her singing Rent at all. If i do I will post it unless someone beats me to it.
I used to really like The Spice Girls. I even own Spice World. It's always fun to watch when you need a good laugh.
Hell, i watch Spice World too, damn i want a bus like they had.
I wish i could have seen him as Roger...
Well if you hop on a plane to China you can go see him. PM me, I may be able to help you.
Jeremy was an awesome Roger. I saw him in his Benny days.
Seriously, I think the train wreck that could have been with Mel B was saved by Jeremy lol.

Well here is the only Mimi I found Daphne Rubin Vega. The best Mimi ever. You have to have quicktime to view these clips real short clips LOL!

Not at all defending Scary Spice as Mimi here - because lord knows she was awful when I saw her - but my cousin is Puerto Rican, grew up outside of London and recently moved back here, so there is such a thing as Latinas with a British accent, it all depends where you're from. Granted Mimi wouldn't have one, but I'm just sayin'

I indeed saw her, and actually met her after the show. Let's just say that I agree with many of you when I say Mimi should not have an English accent. Or a mixture of a faux-spanish and english accent. She was... okay? Her understudy was better.

Well my friend Samantha and I only talked to her for about 30 seconds, but she was pretty like I Am Scary Spice and You Are Lucky To Speak To Me. Not outwardly rude or anything, but I didn't get a cool vibe from her, as opposed to the other people I have met who were in Rent.
I didn't approach her. She was very intimidating AND she was smoking a cigarette and was speaking very heatedly with some people not in the cast.
Not that it says alot as to how she would have responded had I gone up to her, but yeah.
My favorite part was that she had so many vocal problems, yet she was smoking.
I had wanted to see "Rent" when it first came out. I was only 14, so my parent's weren't thrilled with it and all that jazz. By the time I was old enough to go on my own, I was kind of fed up with the fan base, everyone thinking it was the greatest thing to ever hit Broadway. Then, I started to listen to the music again, and realize, this is a great show and I shouldn't let some annoying teenagers influence my decision. However, I wanted to wait until they were done with their "stunt" casting. A 98 degreeer..an Nsyncer...a Spice person...give me a break. Thank God for Karmine Alers...she rocked the sh*t out of that role...too bad the Maureen sucked...

One thing I will say about Mel B's ego, she comes by it deservedly. Hell, in the UK the woman is practically royalty. Or at least she was for a long time. They can't all be Posh, I suppose.
Karmine is love. I adore her too.
