“Interesting” isn’t the word I’d use. If Dorrance is choreographing, that’s a genuinely inspired choice and a huge get. It would probably make this a must-see for me.

She’s obviously a contemporary tap genius, but just as importantly, she’s a student and historian of the form who came up learning from the actual masters. For a show like 42nd Street, that’s kind of the dream combination: someone who understands the lineage in her bones but has absolutely no interest in treating tap as a museum piece. She could honor what that choreography is while making the dancing feel dangerous, musical, and newly alive.

Mary Testa was on a podcast two weeks ago and brought up this revival. She's not involved, but she seemed to confirm that Richard Jones is directing. Also noted: they've been workshopping/reworking it & she heard that the roles of Maggie & Bert have been cut.

I'm not sure how to link it, but the episode title is "Mary Testa Has Never Planned a Single Thing in 50 Years," and she starts talking about it around 21:50.
