"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Thanks, adam. If "all Broadway is sending love and strength," I assume she's out with a gun shot wound.

What happened? If she's out because she's ill or injured (I know she had hamstring injuries at the beginning of the show, but this is the first she's missed a show), that's one thing, but when I read this, I became alarmed that something serious happened to her or a family member.

She just posted this on her facebook page, where she accepts fans, so I assume this is ok to post:

Jan Maxwell
Ok. I was hit by a minivan between shows. Left side of my leg, right arm and head in pain, but nothing hurts more than not being able to do the show. Driver of the car was a tall, blonde Irish woman named Colleen . . . wait a sec . . .

Good grief. Wishing her the best. I hope she can return to the show quickly, but I imagine that she'll be out for a while.

We were all kind of making jokes without knowing what had happened and in hindsight it seemed a bit insensitive....so I think we decided to remove them.

O wow, how awful! I wish her a very quick recovery. Hope she gets back on that stage in no time so she can prove she still has Tonys in her bag.
