Should a “Covid passport “ be required to see a Broadway show?

As a healthcare worker I had to show proof of having had the TB, Measles and Hepatitis C jabs before being allowed to work. For over 6 months I have had to take biweekly lateral flow tests. I received both doses of the pifzer vaccine through work before 2021 began. All that makes sense to me because patients need to be protected.

I honestly do not understand all the whining and complaining about the possibility of government introducing methods for businesss to obtain proof that someone will not infect their other customers. Without that those businesses might not open at all due to personal Heath and liability concerns..

Some people just want to have all the rights and freedom and none of the responsibilities that come with living in a society.

Next time I go to the theatre and share a crowded room with a thousand people, I say damn right to requirements of either full vaccination or positive anti bodies tests. I dont want to catch a variant from an anti vaxer.

Just got my first Pfizer jab at Javits this morning and I say screw my “freedom” if a verified vaccine passport is what it takes to be back in a theater.

Yes. Whomever doesn’t like it can stay home .

I was just on Ticketmaster checking for something. The message Ticketmaster has is more of a waver than anything else. It states that it’s risky to go to an event with mass gatherings due to covid. And, should anyone buy a ticket through them, go to an event and get covid as a result, Ticketmaster cannot be held responsible in any way.

But the rules regarding covid safety are not up to Ticketmaster to decide. In New York for example, a set of rules was implemented to allow folks to enter stadiums and arenas. Proof of a negative covid dated within 72 hours of the event. But, now that more and more people have been getting vaccinated and the attendance going up from 10 percent capacity to 20 they also add proof of vaccine too.

Without a doubt. And not just for B'way shows, but all around the world.

Yes. No question. Theater will remain one of the highest risk activities for COVID, and anything that can be done to reduce that risk must be embraced.

If you’re fine showing an ID to buy liquor or get into a club, you should be fine showing a vaccine pass.

Most smaller venues that are opening this month are smartly requiring masks and social distancing. Combined with the advanced filtration of air. Which are all very smart.

Perhaps this fall some Broadway theaters (if they want to cram everyone in to 100% capacity) may temporarily require an additional step - that is, negative COVID test or proof of vaccination. I think it will depend on what type of audience they want to attract. If a Broadway show is geared towards New Yorkers (example Angels in America or The Minutes), I think most customers would react positively. But if a Broadway show is geared toward tourists from Florida or Alabama etc, I can't see that show remaining in business, and that show would probably have to hold off re-opening until COVID is no longer a dire threat and restrictions are no longer needed (whether that's 2022 or 2023, nobody knows).

For example, I have friends in Long Island and Westchester who are split down the middle: 50% want a COVID passport and the other 50% say it will drive them away.

I think we are going to see a lot of people doing a lot of things they are presently saying they won't do. We have been through a year+ filled with deprivation (and I am not just talking about the theatre). People have coped (in NYC, well, as is our wont). Now people will deal. (ditto) Masks for however long it is needed. Oh, and watch all the "I won't get vaccinated" crowd change their mind when it means they can't travel or go places. Here are your free tickets to the Super Bowl. Where is your covid passport? I'll be right back...

There will always be the anti-vaxx idiots, but most everyone with whom we are likely to come in contact will be vaccinated as will their kids. And the Ted Cruz crowd can't get to Cancun in a car so guess what.

Also, based on Boris Johnson’s comments today it sounds like you’ll need to show proof of vaccination or negative test to go to the theatre on the West End, starting next month. I think it’s great but it’ll be a good test to see what happens in that situation. I have plans to go the end of June for a while and will obviously download and show whatever they require.
