Most welcome!

Those last moments were emotionally devastating and not sure the impact will be the same the second time around. Will most likely see it as it is a very good play.

I got a kick out of the Playbill design, how they ensured that the pic of Mendez and Glick that's used with every. Promotional. Article was replicated for it...

This is the most dull poster design I've seen in a long time. What does this say about the play, other than that it features people?

It's not great. I swear, Broadway art gets worse every season...

The show was probably always gonna have an uphill battle- a new work from a young writer, a cast with no big names, a prickly premise- and all this poster seems to do is shrug and accept defeat in advance. It does nothing to sell the show. It's like they looked at brilliant PR campaign of that other new work no names and prickly premise, Hand to God, and said, "they were sort of pushy, weren't they?"

The art is disappointing.

Show Gideon Glick with bridal bouquets at his feet looking bitter.

Show Lindsey Mendez looking frazzled in a bridle gown.

Show a wedding invitation with the "Guest" line angrily crossed out.

Don't show cramped headshots of the cast over a wide blue expanse.

I don't get the use of B/W photography.  It looks especially bad on Barbara Barrie, just a washout with her haircolor.  There is somewhat more expressive photography (still B/W) on the website.  Not sure why they went with these images for the poster though.  Unless this is just placeholder artwork?

And the tag line is doing this no favors.

Well, the show starts in a month, this was their "meet the press" event, and all their promo art has been variations of this.

The Pels artwork was much better and told you instantly everything you need to know about the show.

The Off-Broadway artwork so was so great.  This new artwork, not so much.

They could've written an actual tag line. That might help. "A new play" is not helping anyone.

I quite liked the use of the RSVP card on the discount flyer for the show I received last week. The artwork on the flyer at least made it clear it was about someone getting married. This poster (and everything else I've seen) looks like a generic sitcom about quirky friends trying to make it in life or something.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Has anyone here SEEN the play? A lot of it is very sitcom-y. It seems as if you all are just remembering the final 5 moments. What about the entirety leading up to that?

I sort of like the artwork. The Black & White portraits remind me of photo booth photos at a wedding. And the blue is the signature blue they're going with here. It's a bit bland but most artworks are these days. It's what they've got. That's it.

Hamilton's artwork isn't much more exciting, if you ask me.

It being "sitcom-y" doesn't change the fact that the art conveys very little about the show to someone who hasn't SEEN the play. The context you give to the photos can be attributed to your familiarity with the material.

The shows title is... Significant... Other.

How does that not give off a wedding vibe? Whether or not you thought wedding photobooth is one thing but you don't necessarily have to have seen the play to make that inference.

But when trying to capture the attention of the ticket buying public, shouldn't good art stand alone without the need to make such inferences?

Get REAL. You're the one on the high horse around here.

"Of course I've seen the play."

OK??? Good for you. Not everyone around here has, and I wasn't directing my question at you. Yet you somehow believe I was. Hence the high horse you are currently riding.

I was addressing the topic of discussion. I am in no way regarding myself higher than anyone else here. Get over yourself.

Of course it should! I don't disagree with you. I'm just saying of all the bland artworks in the past year or so, this isn't the worst/nor is it my least favorite.

they should have gone with this artwork. why they changed it to that bland boring current one is beyond me. at least the original Broadway playbill design had a better sense of what the show is about.

It's not a bad play, but when you think that Paula Vogel is just now making her Broadway debut and same with Nottage's "Sweat" - I can't help but think this will be swallowed whole. It's not a bad play by any means, but is it really important enough to be put on Broadway? I don't think so.

It 100% is. It's a play that anyone can relate to, unless you've been dating the same person since high school. It's certainly more relevant today than the semi chauvinistic Present Laughter being revived or that British play about a college play (Zzzzzzz). I think the point of Significant Other is to comfort your small miseries. It's an escape. And it's a well written and exceptionally acted play (I mean Gideon Glick should win a tony award for the next ten years because of that role).

Broadway can be entertaining too, including plays, this just happens to be the only one to entertain the comedy side as much as the tragedy side this year.

Yes, of course I've seen it, which is why I think the design is terrible and slapdash. It tells you nothing- it's a series of headshots. It's lazy and looks cheap, if nothing else.

Hamilton's art may not say a lot, but it at least has an instantly recognizable logo.

As for whether it should be on Broadway... why not? Perceived importance is not and should not be a requirement for the production of plays on Broadway. In fact, I wish there were plays that were less important. They just need to be good.

Makes me glad I got a signed Roundabout poster in the flea market! Significant Other on Broadway

That said, I can't say that I've ever made a purchase decision based on show art.

The Hamilton design created something memorable and iconic.  That Significant Other poster looks like nothing, really.  It basically tells me that the producers and the marketing team decided there is absolutely nothing special about it.  I've never been a huge fan of studio photography for a show's promotional artwork.  Not unless it is very specific to the period, story or unique style of the show itself such as with Jane Eyre, Sweet Smell of Success or Time Stands Still.
