I agree that the logo is underwhelming but it surprised me to read that most people (from the focus groups) didn't know the show is about singing nuns.
So much for name recognition.
And speaking of name recognition:
Twitter Watch has a useful feature, broadwayworld.com: Every time a Broadway personality tweets something newsworthy, those "Glee"-obsessed show geeks post it.

If they did their reserch they'd realize that most Broadwayworld-ers dislike Glee.
This actually pisses me off more then it should.

"They're" not making the comment about being Glee-obsessed here. That's the ill-informed Michael Reidel himself, who obviously hasn't read a thread here in years, yet feels he "knows" what we like and what we watch. Wrong on both counts, Mikey.
As he is often wrong. Keep that in mind when he acts all "knowledgeable" about the opinions and behavior of others in his columns. He doesn't know jack. He speculates without the information, per usual.
For every one "I still like Glee" comment on BWW, there are at least a dozen who can't stand the show and/or have stopped watching it entirely.
Good for you for being accurate, Mikey!
As for the focus group (of what? Nine-year-olds?) who can't remember back to "ancient times" when Whoopi Goldberg, or was it Marie Dressler (I forget), starred in that classic comedy about singing and dancing nuns ... I'm not sure who they're polling in this focus group, but these people sound more likely to purchase bubble gum than tickets to a stage musical.

Yea, I think he's basing his generalization on the fact that this is considered more of a fan's site by most industry people.
Whereas ATC is considered more insidery.
That's actually not true at all as there are many many members here who work in the theater industry in all different capacities.
But regardless, that's the reputation we have.
I don't mind Riedel, but as a gossip columnist journalist covering Broadway he should certainly check this board and get a sense of its true nature before dismissing its members as pablum eating geeks.
Of course on the other hand it's possible that he does check this board and is just pissy about all the hate threads dedicated to him.
Who knows? Bottom line, it's free PR.

And with tickets nowhere near the $450 commanded by a genuine hit like "The Book of Mormon," "Sister Act" should be filling more than 70 percent of its seats.
What a bizarrely innaccurate statement. And if Sister Act were a hit, their Premium Seats would probably cost as much as Mormon. But there is nothing commanding about Premium Seats. Ever. What a drama queen.

Aw, it's nice to see Riedel using whatever tenuous power he has to help a show in need.
Rather than trying to shove a pillow over its face, as he is wont to do.
(I certainly don't, and won't, forget his inexplicable vendetta against the Ragtime revival)

I think Riedel's remark about us was meant to be in good humor. Glad to see posters aren't feeding the dog and making a long angry thread about it. When I first saw this thread this morning I assumed we'd be on page 3 by now

I read it not as a comment on the people who post on message boards here but as a comment on the site itself. And there's no denying that there's an awful lot of Glee-related news stories, videos, etc. on here, regardless of your opinion of the show.
Riedel's still an odious man, however.

You all are getting way too worked up over a very innocuous statement.
What I find 10 times more interesting is that the Sister Act producers seem determined to dig in and make a go of it, rather than just run through the holidays and fold up the tent.

Not inexplicable. Patrick Healy wrote several positive feature stories on RAGTIME for the Times. Riedel hates Patrick Healy, so went in the opposite direction and used his forum to write very negative columns.

Posted: 8/17/11 at 8:13pmI sell tickets for a living, and you'd be surprised at the varying name recognition Sister Act has. More often than I'd like to count, I have to be like "Based on the movie? With Whoopi Goldberg? About the nun?" for it to click with a customer. So to hear that the campaign is getting an overhaul is a godsend, because it should be an easy sell, and it's not.

He was talking about Broadwayworld.com, not the people who read the site. Let's face it, we were recently polled by the site's owner about what we'd like to see on Glee. We get news updates on everything, including "Matthew Morrisson makes a whoopsie after eating a bean burritp!"

"Good lord why are people reacting like he raped your dog?"
For one thing, songanddanceman, L to the O to the L!!
And mainly because a lot of the people on here have made an identity of hating Glee, so its like calling them...I dunno...straight.
I personally never understood the vitriol against a show that seems so singularly made for us show queens (cause, you know, that's exactly what we are), a show about which Stephen Sondheim himself called "...terrific," and went on to explain. "Glee is a mix of contemporary songs and show tunes in the service of joy." This!
A show that probably does more good than a million Its Gets Better videoes combined.
Maybe its because, since the show is anti-bully, most of the virulent anti-Glee Broadway World posters feel the show is against them personally.
