Ugh, Lael has a powerful has a powerful voice, but her acting is no where near as strong as Marla's. She is also not exactly small and mousy, and I think the role really needs that. Marla is tiny. Seems like a pretty bland cast.
ljay889, I wouldn't call Marla Mindelle "tiny" by any means. Quite the opposite, actually- she's 5'9.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I'm not really referring to height, but Marla has a small frame. I've seen Lael as Mary Robert and in other ensemble tracks. She is curvy and busty. She is far from mousy.
I have a much lesser opinion of Lael van Keuren as Mary Robert than ljay does. Frankly, I thought she was awful. Absolutely awful. And it was a performance I suffered through twice, each time equally as bad. Her voice was screechy both times, possessing neithe the power or clarity of Marla's voice. She had absolutely no concept of her character at all, and never once played Mary Robert as meek or unsure of herself. This meant that her big moments in Raise Your Voice and during the act 2 climax ("I said no!!") have no resonance because the character hasn't changed at all. You never got a sense she ever found her calling like you did with Marla. The Life I Never Led (my favorite moment in the show when it's well performed) became a throwaway number with her.
Appearance wise, I'll say it, she was too big to be playing a little nun. Marla may have been tall, but she has a tiny frame that contrasted nicely with Sarah Bolt. Lael is a big girl, and she got bigger as the run went on (for proof of this, watch footage of their Bryant Park performance from last summer, then watch this summer's footage).
It was a messy, amateurish performance. I was never really sure why they didn't use Chelsea Morgan Stock more often, who was quite good in the role.
Louise would have been a good choice, though. I didn't know Chelsea M Stock even got to go on! Every time Marla was out it seemed like Lael was on. Praying that it wont end of being her.
I never saw Laele van Keuren go on as Mary Robert, so I can't speak to any criticisms of her performance, but since when does someone have to be "small" to be "mousy"? The logic at play here is totally absurd.

Lael is fantastic...maybe you went on an off performance...her singing raise your voice is absolutely unbelievable...girl can BLOW. Just as good if not better than Marla. Lael has since lost all her weight and she looks damn good, you should see the tour and reassess your views. And Chelsea is great, but her voice isn't like Lael's. I find it super interesting that you feel the need to tear apart the girl on this forum....most people are trying to find out the cast and you feel the need to rip Lael a new one....come on man, what good is it gonna do? Is your negative opinion valuable to anyone? Go head and use your freedom of speech, but how about having some class, tact, and respect for actors and rephrase what you say in a more organized, positive, and less degrading manner. No one wants to hear you complain
"Louise Pitre is not playing Mother Superior.
Now that that's out of the way....

I saw Sister Act 10 times (trash talk all you want, but I personally LOVED the show) and had an understudy for Marla twice. She was my favorite person in the cast, which obviously made me upset she was out, but I saw both Lael Van Keuren & Chelsea Morgan Stock and I thought they were both wonderful. While I preferred Chelsea's to Lael's, I don't think it's at all fair to say she is too big and not right for the part; She was cast as the u/s for mary robert for a reason, because she can play it and play it well. I agree Marla is built smaller and plays the character very mousey but I've seen Marissa Perry (who is probably my least favorite cast member) on for Mary Patrick and while she isn't as "curvy" as Sarah Bolt, she also isn't as energetic and upbeat, BUT that doesn't mean she isn't right for the part. Both Marla & Sarah have had months to perfect their characters while people like Lael have what....a half hour?...to prepare to go on for a role. If she was in fact cast as Mary Robert, I'm sure with time, she will improve.
I've seen Hollis in a lot of stuff in Chicago. I'm having a hard time seeing her as Mother Superior. She was struggling a little vocally with Mrs. VonTussle in Hairspray. I'm thinking she's Mary Lazarus.
Their website has been changed to reflect just the tour, but no cast list is posted.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
From November 13th, 2012 to December 2nd, 2012, Sister Act will be playing at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. It's strange how no cast information has been released about it.
Also wondering why no cast announcement has been made yet. It's clearly fully cast as rehearsals have began. It crossed my mind they were perhaps waiting for The View to return and have Whoopi announce it although it does seem strange
