re: 'Sister Act- The Musical' -London Palladium

boyfromoz: not sure if it'll make any difference to you or your friends, but Michael Ball isn't appearing in Hairspray on Sat 27th - I was going to take my Mum that day but think we'll go to Sister Act instead. Funnily enough I was also in the front row for SA on Saturday night, my 2nd time seeing it too and much enhanced by having a closer view of things. Loved the energy and enthusiasm of Patina Miller's performance, particularly as I read she'd been out sick for a few days.

For merchandise fans, they've got a very good range of souvenir stock as well as a great brochure - but unfortunately no wimples. Weren't they giving them out free to people in the front row at one point?
Seen some shows in my time....

I went for the second time last night. Once again, I left the theatre desperately wanting to see it again. If this show closes early, as I still reckon it will, it would be a f*ckiing crime.

No, London theatres do not release their grosses and probably never will, wish is a shame, as I like to look at grosses, not just to see how well a show is doing, but its good to go back in time to see what shows were playing at what New York theatre, shame we cannot do this in London, stiff upper lip thing, I guess. Time for producers to get there head out of there arse and start being more transparent, I cannot see issuing grosses harming a production.

What do the producers have to gain by releasing figures? If they do well, they're accused of boasting. If sales are low it can damage advance booking and lead to gossip about imminent closures.

I'm completely broke, but I'm considering making it my one luxury this month. I took a friend a couple of weeks ago and he got very excited about the CD. He said when it came out he'd by it for me. I'm not sure he's remembered and it's not something you can really push someone for.

"Hey, you know you said that you'd kindly buy that CD for me? Well, it's out and I want it now."

Oh, I might just buy it.

I got the CD today. Very well put together - full lyrics included in the booklet, along with many photos and an interview with Alan.

All of the songs are on the CD - Do The Holy Mass is shorter, but - the joyous lyrics are still there. The brilliant Raise Your Voice is in its entirety, along with How I got The Calling and all the reprises of the various songs in the 2nd act. Though, the act one reprise of Fabulous, Baby isn't there.

There is a much larger and more present string section in the orchestra - giving it a great, large sound! The reprise of The Life I never Led has a much bigger ending on the CD - which is nice.

Very punchy, thick sound - though there's some extreme panning which can be a bit off putting - and the voices are sometimes lost by the large orchestra. But, it's nice to have an original london cast recording!

.... just like it is on stage. Starts with the timpani roll - which is great! :) The counterpoint at the end is lost in the recordings and mix though - which is a big shame.
