I'd love to see Jackie Hoffman as lazaurus. But she's pretty young though

re: 'Sister Act- The Musical' -London Palladium

Hi, I am new to broadwayworld.com boards, I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction to listen to the sister act soundtrack. I saw the show back in the preview stages and thought the score was amazing, especially sung well by Patina.
Thanks

Just heard from Alan Menken that the sheet music will be available "early fall". Hurrah!

re: 'Sister Act- The Musical' -London Palladium

Well, I've finally seen it and I left the theatre on a high. I was expecting the score to be sub-par Menken and so I was well-pleased to find plenty of really effective show tunes in there. I particularly liked the wit in the lyrics of When I Find My Baby and the way that song turns a genre on its head but there are plenty of superb production numbers too.

That doesn't mean to say that the show doesn't have issues but those issues aren't the ones suggested in that ridiculous thread on the other side. The main problem is that the book is underwritten and at times very clunky. Katie Rowley Jones' character is ill-defined and awkward, trying to provide confrontation but only demonstrating that the authors seem to understand little about the nature of Christianity and Catholicism. During the final confrontation scene I was asking myself "Why am I on the edge of my seat when the writing is this bad?" The answer ofcourse is because of the superb cast - Patina Millar entirely deserves all the praise that has been showered upon her - she entirely lives up to her character's claim to fabulousness. I missed Julia Sutton (one of my favourite West End stalwarts) but Shiela Hancock proved that less-is-more bringing subtely and thought to a role that could easily be cliche. The scene where she gets unwillingly swept up into the kick line is hilarious, superb and develops her character in ways that the book fails to do: thank you Anthony Van Laast.

You can also pick up that there were problems with the direction but there was much to laugh at as well: I don't really find nuns that amusing but seeing one of them discretely knee one of the mobsters in the bollocks was hilarious. The sets are very lavish and if you like religous iconography in your musicals you'll have a great time.

But it all comes back to the cast: they really are fabulous baby and they just about took me to heaven even though the book tried to drag me back down.

What other shows did you see? ^^^

Sister Act is brilliant, with a couple of rough edges. I am absolutely delighted how everyone has taken Sister Act to their hearts, we all predicted before the show opened it would be a big flop, so good its doing well, especially as the press rounded on Sister Act.

I think it would be fair to say we have a little gen in Patina Millar and her name will be in lights in years to come?

Think we need a bage or something to stick to this show, as it seem it has reached 'BroadwayWorld West End Message Board' seal of approval.

Saw this delightful show again last night (Bank Holiday Monday).
The entire company were on and they were way on top of the production.
It is so tight and slick it almost bares no resemblance to the second preview I saw way back when. which i thought was terrific even then!
They have gotten rid of that awful shower curtain for the opening with Sheila Hancock now making the opening speech in front of a great new curtain and cherub.
There are lots of new bits and pieces i noticed new from the last time I saw the show. I'm sure there are better costumes etc and new pieces of set?!?
A fantastic night!

The house was, sadly, far from full.
At 6.55pm we had Stalls row J off the centre aisle and there were seats either side of us and all around. The rear stalls was empty and people spread out a lot.

I hope this ticks over until at least next spring/ summer.
So much energy flowing of that stage it just seems a waste to play half empty houses.
The Palladium is a big, big house to full with over 2500 seats every night, eight shows a week.

The ones who were there had an absolute blast.

Its just plain front tab but is obviously a lot heavier than the first one and now it doesn't billow out over the orchestra pit. It has no decoration, just a purple curtain.

There is also a great act 2 show curtain which is a full stage size blow up of the newspaper giving the identity of Dolores away!
