Christine Ebersole! Looking forward to finally seeing this after having missed it in NYC
It opens this week in LA. Has anybody seen it yet?

Tonight was only the first preview. It doesn't open for a week and a half. Seeing it Saturday night.
BTW, is it time to consider trimming the signature a bit to maybe the last year or two?

Posted: 2/2/14 at 11:15amI saw it on Friday night and thought it was fantastic! There wasn't a weak link in the cast. Christine Ebersole gave a wonderful performance.

Posted: 2/2/14 at 12:33pmI really want to see this! Trying to decide if it would be a good show to take a friend to. She understands English well but it's not her first language and she doesn't do too well with very complicated plots or shows that are very heavily dialogue driven (if that makes sense). Is it easy to follow what's going on?

Posted: 2/2/14 at 2:00pmI'd take her to something else. BTW.... love the play.

Throughly enjoyed this play. One of the best pieces of theatere I've seen at The Taper.
David Hyde Pierce's direction is flawless from the gorgeous set to the incredible performances of Mark Blum and Kristine Neilsen along with Christine Ebersole, this is a theatrical treat.

Posted: 2/3/14 at 2:05pmI'd love to hear thoughts about this vs the NY production. The set is the same, but the costumes are different (in some cases more of the same, others completely different). Some of the publicity shots even look staged the same way. I'm just curious how different it is, direction-wise. Is it entirely different (including how Kristine and Shalita play their roles) or Did Pierce use the original as a road map of sorts?

The only thing I will say is that Kristine's new Maggie Smith dress is HORRENDOUS. She looks awful. On Broadway, that costume stole the show.

Posted: 2/3/14 at 2:21pmI wish Christine Ebersole could have taken over when Sigourney Weaver left. I'd have LOVED to see her in the role.

I didn't catch the show in NYC but I can attest to the fact that Kristine's costume for the party is actually really beautifuk and she wears it well.

Posted: 2/4/14 at 2:12pmOdd that the costumes were changed. The Broadway dress is really exactly what that needs to be- eyecatching and glamorous.

Posted: 2/4/14 at 2:55pmWhile the LA production retains the same Set Designer as the Broadway production (David Korins,) it does not have the same Costume Designer. Gabriel Berry designed the costumes in LA, whereas Emily Rebholz designed the ones on Broadway.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Posted: 2/5/14 at 12:53amIs she suppose to be pretty or dumpy in that scene? Cause that dress looks dumpy and dirty?
Sonia and Vanya and Masha and Spike -LA#17
Posted: 2/5/14 at 1:21amThe point is that she's pretty and overshadowing her much more glamorous sister. The Broadway costume got that point across pretty well, but I agree, the LA dress is not nearly as nice.

saw it tonight for the second time (tkts are discounted for the weekday shows). Saw some famous faces in the audience. loving it more and more. I have a feeling I might see it at least once more before it leaves. Tonight's audience seemed to love it, too. The actors had to pause quite a few times to let the laughter and clapping die down. Actually, some of the dialogue got drowned out by it. That dress got a loud applause and quite honestly, looked red-carpet ready (for Maggie Smith, that is).

Posted: 2/12/14 at 11:43amI know plays rarely end up touring, but I though this one would do well, even if just for 6-9 months touring some of the bigger cities(San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto, D.C., etc.).

Posted: 2/12/14 at 2:29pmI doubt it'll tour- especially since it's being done by scores of regional theatres.

I agree with this and it's up next at the Old Globe in San Diego (May 17-June 22). Can't wait to see who they cast in this production.
