I set this to PVR, but then turned it on near the end. I couldn't take my eyes off Creel's hair. It is awful! He needs a better stylist.

Just a reminder that Shoshana Bean is on tonight. I was able to attend both her and Gavin's concerts at the Playhouse, and, while I thought Gavin's was a perfectly pleasant show, Shoshana's blew me away.

Ya his hair was hard to overcome.
Also I'm not sure stacked chairs was a great design decision.

I'm a huge Gavin Creel fan, but I don't think this show did him any favors. I didn't mind the hair, loved his outfit, but the performance was just OK. Seemed like a run-through of a lot of nice standards. I stopped watching about midway.

Shoshana Bean is the only I am most excited about. Gavin Creel's was fine. But it took me a few sit-downs to get through it. He sounds great, loved the suit, not sure about the Lucius Malfoy hairstyle though.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the last round of Live from Lincoln Centre concerts from the Appel Room have a Brandon Victor Dixon episode?

I was at one of the Shoshana Bean tapings. I really enjoyed her Broadway numbers. Her original songs and the "special" guests she brought out...not so much. She opened with "It All Fades Away" which was phenomenal. Didn't care for this version of "She Used to Be Mine" as much as the Broadway.com version. Not as angsty. It's good enough to sit through at home and fast forward the boring parts.

You might be thinking of Leslie Odom Jr?

Loved Shoshana. Her “Stars and the Moon” was maybe my favorite version of that great song. And during her Streisand medley, I kept wishing that they had built the upcoming “Funny Girl” revival around her. Any chance that she and Beanie can switch shows this spring? :)

Oh, God. Thanks for the reminder. I saw the announcement so long ago I forgot to tape it. I managed to set the DVR for when it re-airs.

As much as I love hearing Shoshana sing songs from Funny Girl, I don't need to see her as Fanny, and they're clearly going for something different in the upcoming revival. Judging from clips of her performance at the North Shore Music Theatre in 2016, it looks like a Barbra impersonation to me, and she just doesn't come across as a naive twentysomething girl (and that was almost 6 years ago).I can't wait to see what Beanie does with the role, and, if there's any truth to the Micaela Diamond rumor, I'd love to see her, as well.

This is almost identical to the show that she put on at Tavern on the Green. It was the first live performance I’d seen since the shut down and I loved every second of it. In my opinion, Shoshana is more of a vocalist than your typical Broadway performer. She’s focused on every last note of a song…and the ones she can add to it. It’s less about the performance and more about the precision. But I haven’t seen her act in a while, so I may have to get tickets to the Billy Crystal show. If they weren’t so freaking expensive.
