I agree! I mean, I can understand wanting to hold off on the standing room if the entire mezz is empty (and I've been to performances where that was pretty much true) but some of the people in the box office (I've noticed it's the women, mostly) take it to the point of if there's a single seat open they won't give them out. I honestly wish they would just decide one way or the other. Once I got yelled at for ASKING if it was available and when I came back another day around 5 (after checking Telecharge and seeing that there were indeed tickets available) the guy treated me like a moron for not being there when they opened...
Ok, I think I'm done ranting.

It's a tough call...because one might think if they DON'T sell standing room, that person might buy a ticket that's still available, but then again, if they are opting for standing room, it might be because they don't have the money to buy any other ticket price.
Some people recognize that, and some people don't...which sucks.

It is the policy of all theatres. It's called SRO for a reason: standing room ONLY.
The couple of hundred bucks they take in from standing room doesn't make a spit's worth of difference...that's why they won't sell them until they are sold out.
Besides: if they did just sell them because they were "there" it would be that much harder to get them....more folks would try for them even earlier.

So, did anyone get to see Paris on as Claude tonight? Any reviews?

Not too bad of an existence, eh? August is the month that my kids are with their dad across the country. One of these years, I'm going to simply sublet a village apt for a month and STAY there.
As it is, I'm going to NY four times -- and once is for an entire week. I'm sure I'm not done planning.

From B'way Understudies:
Josh Lamon will be taking over the role of Principal/Hubert in HAIR
Who was originally playing that?

Leia947, I saw Paris last night and he did a fantastic job!
And Theo Stockman will be leaving the cast for a few months to do American Idiot in Berkeley. In the meantime, swing Josh Lamon will be taking over the role full-time. There's also a new swing who just started to fill in the gap Theo's absence and Josh's switch would make.

That's what I was thinking...but I didn't realize that Theo was connected to AI. That could end up running longer....that's what they are hoping.

I'm afraid my review won't be all that detailed because I couldn't think of a lot to say about the performance. He did a fantastic job, especially for having had only one rehearsal and having never sung Claude's part with the full band.
I guess the easiest way to describe the performance is in comparison to Gavin and Jay's:
His Claude seems somewhere in between Jay's and Gavin's as far as age, first of all. He had very cute interactions with Berger - they're not quite as overtly sexual as Gavin and Will's characters can be, but it was definitely not the "brotherly" vibe you get with Jay.
He sounded great - his voice is deeper than the other Claudes. He sang it pretty straight through, without adding riffs as Jay and Gavin sometimes do. He also had some really cute moments, like some cute little bits during "I Got Life" that he made his own. Paris' Claude is very kissy, as he and Dionne and Berger kissed during parts of the show (plus the kiss between Sheila and Claude).
I really enjoyed the show last night. Everyone was so excited for him, and deservedly so! I hope that we get to see him go on again soon.

Who said he only had one rehearsal?? NO ONE would ever be allowed on a b'way stage with only ONE rehearsal.

I'm both sad and happy about Theo's departure. On the one side, I totally hopes he "makes it big" as a lead. But on the other, he's definitely one of my favorite tribe members. So I probably won't be seeing Hair until he returns in November (unless the run gets extended obvi). But that's also partly because my mom won't pay for me to see it again for a little while. *sigh*
Because I look different you think I'm subversive.

Um, Paris did.
They had their first put-in rehearsal in which Paris was Claude on Thursday.

I know at least one understudy who has gone on with NO put in rehearsals (not for HAIR). Things happen, and unless it's a vaca coverage, you can never know when you're going to be going on.

A put in rehearsal is not the same as other rehearsals. I'm sure he's had others.
