Twitter is a toxic cesspool of garbage people. Just ignore them and keep that negative energy off this thread. They don't matter and they won't see it anyways.

I think it’s WAY too early to be saying this will be a front runner.

Interesting that the Jets get such short shrift in the trailer. Am I the only one getting a bit of a gay vibe off of Riff (or at least the character I'm assuming is Riff)?

I didn't say it was a front runner. I just posed questions (hence the question marks at the very end).

I gotta admit, it looks good, although Elgort's woodenness comes through in the trailer.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

What a great trailer! I can't wait to hear get the soundtrack. Gustavo Dudamel (Los Angeles Philharmonic) is conducting the score and what we hear of it in this trailer goes right to the heart.

And no worries bb, that whole thing with Ansel wasresolved so long ago I just wanted to keep it positive on here with the excitement about this film."
Okay! Gracias!

On some of the foreign 20th Century Studios IG accounts (i.e. 20th UK, Italy, etc.), there's a slightly different 60 second trailer. It ends with Tony on the balcony telling Maria, "Run away with me."

Do you have a way of providing links to those. I would love to see them.

Sure! See below. It's only about 5% different than the official trailer, but still worth a look.

I cannot wait for this!"
I had forgotten that Dudamel was hired to conduct the score. I love his work with the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra - - - especially in conducting "The Dance at the Gym"!!!

WRONG! I am a member of the older generation. West Side Story, onstage, was NOT Rent. It ran 732 performances. It got 6 Tony nominations and won 2. The tour did okay. The movie version was a huge success. It made the show.
Dude...I meant in emotional connection. As a theater kid we lived and breathed waiting for a high school or community group to put this show up. Was more of this because of the film? Certainly. Does that make it ant less personal? Not even close.
Sheesh.
And arent we talking about films here?
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I was very surprised to learn in my research of WSS, that although it was considered a groundbreaking show it was not a huge hit when it premiered in 1957. That may be attributed to it's subject matter, which is way darker than anything that was running at the time. Sondheim has even commented on this in numerous interviews. The Best Musical Tony went to THE MUSIC MAN, that down-home, feel good, slice of American apple pie.
It was only after the film adaptation was released in 1961 that the general public embraced it. It was a phenomenon. The soundtrack alone would go on to be THE best selling record album of the 1960s and some even consider the soundtrack THE best selling album OF ALL TIME, although some lists instead credit Michael Jackson's THRILLER on the grounds that WEST SIDE STORY was listed on a chart for stereo albums only at a time when many albums were recorded in mono.
I would compare the success of the WEST SIDE STORY film to that of James Cameron's TITANIC (1998).
This new version of WEST SIDE STORY has HUGE shoes to fill.

This soundtrack is gonna sound EPIC!!!"
With Dudamel conducting alongside David Newman's music arrangements and supervision, I have no doubt that the soundtrack will be incredible. Plus I adore the fact that "One Hand, One Heart" is now located in a church with stain-glass windows, it was so stunning that I thought Robert Wise came back from the dead to direct the scene.
Speaking of, I think I maybe in the minority here; but if I had to choose between the two movie musicals that Robert Wise directed (in the case of WSS 61' he co-directed) I would choose The Sound of Music. For I think that he took what he learned from before and applied it to a more magnificent, polished film that I consider it my favorite movie of all time.
