I just joined this forum (after stalking for many months!) just so that I could speak about my experience.

Sunset is my favorite movie of all time, and I discovered the original cast recording a few years ago. I fell in love with the score and love how close it is to the movie. Back in October, someone I followed on Instagram posted about the revival, and I freaked out. I buy tickets for my mom and I to see a show on every Mother's Day weekend, and give them to her as a Christmas present. She had never seen the movie or the play, but she was so excited to see Glenn. Meanwhile, I've had a countdown on my phone until the big day, we watched the movie together a few weeks ago, and I've been listening to the original recording all the time. I've read just about every review I could find of the show, including reviews here! I simply couldn't wait.

Fast forward to Sunday afternoon: it's 2PM, and we go to the Palace to see when doors are going to open. There's an angry looking couple at the box office window and they're taking a long time. Finally, we overhear "because Glenn is sick today." I started feeling lightheaded. I couldn't believe this was happening. We had traveled from Boston just for her, and the people next to us had traveled from London! No one from the theater was making any kind of announcement, so my mom (who is a chatterbox) just started spreading the word herself. People's jaws dropped, and a lot of them didn't believe her, until a young guy came out with a megaphone and made the official announcement. We were told that we could ask for a refund at point of purchase, or stay for the show. We decided to stay, and I'm SO glad we did.

I can't say enough wonderful things about Nancy Anderson's performance. I was so worried for her, my heart was beating out of my chest and my palms were sweaty when she started to sing. She knocked "With One Look" out of the park and got loud cheers and applause for a solid two minutes. "As If We Never Said Goodbye" brought my mom and I to tears; the lyrics "watch me fly, we all know I can do it" were just too relevant. The whole show, especially the orchestra, just took my breath away.

Afterwards, we met Fred outside of the stage door, and he was very nice. A group of us waited for Nancy. She was so surprised and thrilled to meet us, and my mom told her that she saved her Mother's Day! Nancy took a photo with me and autographed my playbook (next to Glenn's face, ha). Mom has still not stopped talking about how amazing Nancy was. It really was a magical performance, and I'm so happy that she got a chance to shine.

I'm now considering taking a day trip back to New York by myself to (try to) see Glenn, because I've already waited this long and the show will be done soon. I hope I can make it happen!

"

Thrilled to say that I (and my very patient husband) will be spending 8 hours on a bus tomorrow to return to Sunset Boulevard for Glenn. I was even able to grab 7th row center seats for less than my mezzanine seats from Mother's Day! Crossing my fingers that I will get to see her this time! Either way, so excited to see this gorgeous show for the second time.

I hope you get to see Glenn! Let us know

Stephanie Martignetti went on tonight playing Betty Schaeffer.

Being there tonight, I was struck by Glenn's makeup. It seems so much heavier and more pronounced than when the show opened. The difference is rather striking. Her portrayal of Norma continues to evolve.

Does anyone know of an orchestral suite of the music from Sunset Boulevard?  I have the short one that was on the B side of Glenn Close's pop single of The Perfect Year.  I'm thinking something more extensive.  I  have them for Aspects, Cats, Joseph, Phantom and Woman in White - and thought I had one for Sunset.  Kind of shocked that I don't - but perhaps they've never made one

Wife and I caught the Saturday evening show yesterday, and Glenn Close was such a monumental performer. I was totally blown away.

You observed this as well? I was surprised to see that Ms. Close is still varying her performance this far in the run.

The most shocking part to me is that she continues to get better.

Saturday night's performance was the best I've seen her in this run.

I feel the same way, she gets better. I think her make up could be much heavier though, like in the original run. When I saw her a few Wednesdays ago, when she sang Surrender in the beginning, I was basically crying. Her performance is so powerful.

I don't know where else to ask, so:

I'm trying to get the sunset blvd window card that lists all credits as a b-day gift to a friend who's a huge fan of Fred Johanson (Max). Unfortunately, it was sold out at both Palace and their online store. I should have gotten it weeks ago, but back then I was hoping for a cast recording, which would have been a better gift. Does anyone know where I may find one?

It did - but I take some comfort of where it placed among all the others remembering it's playing 7 shows per week compared to pretty much everyone else playing 8.  Not sure why there was so much red last week.  I get it that it was after a holiday weekend, but it's just weird that it would have that much of an effect.

Here's hoping it closes strong with it's last three weeks

Yes, yes, I got to see Glenn!! When I first saw her appear onstage, I knew that it was worth EVERY penny and every second of the 8 hour bus ride to come back. I was still in disbelief until she came down to the stage and I could see her myself. We couldn't have had better seats (row F, center) - it was like being in a movie. Such a thrilling experience! The show went by so quickly the first time I saw it, and it went by even faster this time. It felt maybe like 30 minutes; I didn't want it to end at all. She did such a phenomenal job - not a single sour note at all. It was perfect.

The show was very similar to the Mother's Day show, with a few differences: Glenn had about 4 or 5 more costumes and hairstyles than Nancy, and there was a different actor playing Archie as well. It was especially fun to see Nancy interact with Glenn (they hold hands for a section of "As If We Never Said Goodbye"SUNSET BOULEVARD . I also noticed that Michael Xavier seemed to play Joe a little bit meaner this time around (he yelled at Betty a lot during the final scene) which I found interesting, since I know he has been criticized for being "too nice" in the role.

We waited by the stage door after the show (I was hoping to meet Michael or Glenn) but unfortunately all of the leads had escaped out the front door. We did catch a glimpse of Lori Tann Chin, Chang from Orange is the New Black, though - she must have been backstage meeting Glenn. I am still on a high from Sunday and so happy I got to go back to Sunset one more time!

Great piece about Sean Thompson's "emergency" turn as Artie:

Wish I could have seen that, love those special shows where people get pushed into something they don't normally do.  There's an energy that can't be replicated. The magic of live theater.

Speaking of Artie though:  The character didn't stand out for me when I saw it during the original run, but after seeing the revival, Preston Truman Boyd will be the standard by which I measure all Arties. (Assuming I ever see another production, but I kinda don't want to considering the strength of the original and revival.) He made a thankless role his own without upstaging anyone or getting too hammy.  He's that ensemble member that you find yourself watching sometimes instead of the lead.  Hope to see him again in something else.

Read that article earlier today and was pretty blown away by that.  I mean, that's impressive.  How the heck does someone get that prepped that quick - basically a two hour rehearsal?  Granted, he doesn't have any solos - but it is an important role to establish Betty being torn between Artie and Joe - so it's much bigger than an ensemble part.

agirlnamedlucky...I almost traveled to London to see this, so I'd have traveled much longer. But then I had a feeling it was going to play in NYC, and it happened. This production has been a dream come true. Probably my ultimate Broadway experience. I guess I am somehow lucky it didn't become the sold out hit "Hamilton style" I thought it was going to be, so I was able to see the show 5x.

Andrew McBean dropped another exclusive... Patti LuPone at the Sydmonton Premiere of Sunset Boulevard singing "With One Look".  I know this has surfaced on you tube before, but this is the cleanest upload i've seen of it.

I forgot this contained some different lyrics to "With One Look"

"With one look, I touch everyone

With one glance I eclipse the sun

Take a look and you will see

Why the world watches me..."

The intro bit with the piano is a bit awkward, as are the different lyrics you noted above, but she sang it beautifully (better than her CD version, I think). Ms. Close still wins for acting the part, though.

Saw Patti in WAR PAINT last night, and she was in wonderful voice. Also, she inhabited the role in a way that I never saw in her Norma. If she did SUNSET right now, I think she would knock it out of the park.
