While I can appreciate a great performance I still think there is no right to record a performance while watching it. I have had to tell a near by person to shut off their phone while texting through a performance and even one time a woman taking countless photos during Pippin. while not only illegal to record/photograph it is incredibly distracting to the other people watching the show.
Seeing the show tonight. Rushed this morning and got to the box office around 11:30. Got a 99.00 rush ticket in the Orchestra - E 118! SOO pumped!! PLEASE PLEASE let Glenn be in the show tonight!

Oh dear she's so good. I'm genuinely jealous of folks in that audience.
I was there that night...it was amazing. The thundering applause was amazing. She was absolutely perfect in the role. It was a night I will always remember!
Saw the show tonight and was captivated!!! Glenn and the entire company were in fine form
- Glenn was mesmerizing to watch. Her vocals on the softer parts of the songs were beautiful. She did have trouble with a few of the belting parts in 'With One Look' and 'As If.."- She kinda spoke sang the lines. However, we were told by cast members that she was fighting a sinus infection so there is that. She acted the hell out of the role and I was thrilled to get to see her. Are her vocals weak? yes in a way, but the way she lives the songs, you don't really mind it. She had me in tears. You really felt for her and the pain she was going thru
-Michael was wonderful. This was my first time seeing his work and was iffy at first, but when he sang the opening number for act 2 I was in love- LOVE his voice. ALSO, His bouncing pecs were just wonderful.
- I have to talk about Fred Johanson, he was absolutely wonderful! That voice of his is something else. when he sings you feel it in your body. He was quite an intimidating presence on stage, but you also got a lot of warmth from him. He was just wonderful
-Siobhan Dillon was great too, I honestly can't remember too much about her performance as my eyes were on Michael most of the time, but she sang beautifully.
The Costumes were wonderful, Can someone tell me how many of Glenn's costumes were from the original production?
Orchestrations were soo lush, full, powerful and beautiful- they lifted you up.
I rushed this morning to see the show. got there around 11:30 and no one else was there, got my a 99.00 ticket in the center of Row E in the orchestra- could not have asked for a better seat and at such a steal!!
Stage Door: we were told before hand that absolutely no selfies were allowed with any of the cast members but you could take photos of them. everyone came out and signed and were very nice. Glenn was the only one who did not come out, but as stated above, she was battling a sinus infection. We were told that she generally does come out though. I stopped Nancy Anderson on the street after the show and told her how much I enjoyed her performance and her Norma and she was soo wonderful. It was funny, on our way back to the bus terminal, we ran into Michael walking down the street and he remember us and where we were visiting from. LOL

Michael Xavier seems like one of the most genuinely nice people on broadway.
I actually remember seeing this last week, Glenn was still in great voice...and by the end of Surrender I noticed my eyes were filled with tears. The way she sings and acts every single word is something I have never seen. Also, when she does the finally, every movement of her body, the facial expressions on her face, the wording...she is just amazing. Darrel, how many people did you go to see the show with that Mike Xavier remembered you? I pretty much agree with everything you said. I will add that the supporting characters, like Sheldrake, Artie and Mr. Demille also were big standouts for me and I was a bit let down by Betty because I think he line delivery is weak, but then again, I keep comparing her to the recording with Judy Kuhn, and basically no one is as good as Judy, so that can be a tough judgement on my part.

Well - just got back from my third visit this afternoon...What a performance.
Unfortunately I got there after the overture (long story)... which bummed me out as I was running in rushed and frustrated and not really able to enter into the show... And so I don't know if Glenn made a pre-show announcement about her sinus infection. She sounded perfect for Surrender and nailed With One Look. She had to clear her throat at one point early during As If We Never Said Goodbye and I was wondering if she was going to be able to pull that scene off. What a pro - she had to scale it back a bit, but was able to work the scene perfectly and had the audience with her with a huge ovation.
What was most noticeable to me was how much more natural and in sync the whole cast was. They have grown into their roles even more so. Michael Xavier and Siobhan Dillon especially. There chemistry seems even better than I remembered previously. Of all the times I've seen Sunset (I think today was #14 between the Original production and the revival) - for me, today was this first time that their final scene together actually was moving... Fred Johanson as well... his final reveal to Joe, it was the first time I heard an audience reaction to him telling Joe that he was married to her. And it just added to the performance as Fred looked even sadder at the gasps.
What an amazing afternoon (theatre was completely packed). Hope this wasn't my last visit... but if it was, it was fantastic.
BTW - I know we asked earlier in this run, but never saw an answer... Does anyone know why they changed the titles of the Musical Numbers from the original?
I noticed the theatre was well sold this afternoon. I decided to look at Ticketmaster this morning to how its selling. I'm seeing it sometime the weekend/week of Memorial Day. This is NOT a show I'm sitting in the mezzanine for. I want to see every expression, every subtle nuance, every minute detail of Glenn's performance and savor it like the most delectable and finest wine ever created.
Chernjam, I want an experience like yours. I have been obsessed with Sunset since my best friend went to NYC to see Betty Buckley in the role and brought me back the American Premiere recording. I then snapped up every recording/bootleg I could find. I finally saw the hideous Petula Clark tour in high school.
So, with the show seeming to sell well as we are getting into the last few weeks of the run, should I gamble on there still being great $99 seats during rush or lock in those heinously expensive premium seats?

MsDesmond - I have all three times sat in center orchestra (Row Q, Row M and L today). Couple tips - it seems about 5 days out they release seats in this general area and some of the $299 are discounted to $179 (which is what I paid for the seats today) I've not done the rush or anything, so I don't know how available they are - but if this is your first and maybe only time seeing Close, it might be worth getting the expensive seats rather than risking the lotto. Its true a few weeks ago, tickets were a bit more available - particularly with all the other shows that were just opening. But now that they're entering the last 5 weeks, I would expect that ticket sales are picking up again and rush/lotto/whatever discounts are going to be less available.
How amazing would it be if the show extended with the same succession of replacements as the original run?! Particularly Betty (not a HUGE fan of Elaine Paige.) That's almost too much for my heart to bear. My friend saw Sunset in '95 (might have been '96) twice once with Betty and another with Betty's replacement, Karen Mason. Just wondering did anyone see the 1st National Tour with Linda Balgord?
I would be curious to see Buckley but would be very skeptical if she could still sing the score (I saw her recently and I must admit I barely recognise her singing voice). I guess the same could be said about Glenn but no one had high expectations for her singing voice - for Buckley to see the decline might be a little bit sad to me.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
When the revival first opened and they extended the original run by another 4 weeks, Michael Riedel in the NY post was the one who floated the idea of it extending into the summer with some "celebrity replacement." He never mentioned who - and you have to take everything he says with a grain of salt though - he might have floated that possibility hoping that if he printed that - it might happen... Betty Buckley when she went to see Close a few weeks ago was thanking everyone who tweeted her saying they'd love to see her follow Close... so that got some rumors floating again. But it doesn't seem like it will be extending past June 25th. On the doors of the theatre today it said "FINAL WEEKS - MUST END JUNE 25th (which saddened me a bit)
That being said, there's been rumors that Sunset might return to LA for a limited run next in the winter of 2018 (there's a TBD at LA Ahmanson's Theatre) which would bring the show full circle...
Just reading on twitter that Glenn stopped today's performance because someone took two cameras out and was taking pictures... Supposedly she said "We can have a photoshoot or a show..."
I'm confirming what a terrific guy Michael Xavier is and I'm so glad he'll be staying for "Prince".
I don't think he would have any trouble with me copying his instagram post from Saturday night. He's so devilishly funny, backstage with Glenn and cast, he comes out in drag saying he'll be playing Norman Desmond that night and she will have to be "Josephina Willis" (or something like that)..https://www.instagram.com/p/BUVJb0YlUbF/
MX is such a sweetie too. We're going again next Wednesday. The clip is funny though.
The amazing and handsome Sean Thompson went on today as Joe Gillis...I am so bitter I missed him. Did anyone catch him? Did Xavier miss both shows?

I was at the matinee today and found him quite good! Hadn't seen the show yet though, so had nothing to compare him to.
It should also be noted--especially considering the Patti/Glenn talk in this thread, that at today's matinee Mrs. Close ended up pulling a Mrs. Lupone. Surprised more people aren't talking about it because it was quite the show.
After the first verse of "With One Look", Close broke character and went to her normal speaking voice, saying to the orchestra "I'm sorry, we have to stop. Someone is taking pictures!!"
A hush fell over the crowd.
She thusly pointed to the culprit in about the fifth or sixth row to the side. "Get that phone out of here!", she exclaimed to applause from the audience. This went on for a while as ushers scurried back and forth.
She capped it with, and I quote, "Did you come here for a show or a photoshoot?!". It was quite iconic.
She finally said "Ok, we're taking it from the top!" to more applause, did a few silly warmups and went on with the song again. Only saw a few folks tweet about it today.
So before I saw the show on May 6th, I wrote a letter to Miss Close (yes, at my age a crazy fanboy thing to do, but what the hell) and expressed my absolute thanks for her returning to this role and how excited I was to finally see her in the show.
Much to my surprise yesterday, I returned home from work to find a lovely hand written note sent to me from her (or someone who works for her) but regardless, I found the note to be an incredibly nice gesture, and just adds to my love of the show, her performance, and just Glenn Close in general!
