Hearing rumors of Lucas Hnath's THE CHRISTIANS is gearing up casting and looking for a theater...

I saw it at Playwrights and liked it okay but for a short show it really dragged for me. They must have a big name attached.

I like Lucas Hnath and I saw this at Playwrights, but honestly cannot remember much of anything about it.

Does gearing up mean will be announced soon in regards to show and casting…IK theatre is still being worked on

If it comes to fruition it will definitely make Hnath one of the prominent up and coming playwrights…will be his fourth show on Broadway in less than a decade…pretty impressive…also all have been nominated for some type of Tony

Not box office wise but I think all have been deemed well by critics

saw this at The Mask Taper in LA back in 2015 and enjoyed it but don't envision this as a Broadway commercial success unless as earlier stated there was a name. Don Cheadle would be amazing.

My first instinct is that Don Cheadle is NOT a name on the level of Chastain or Bryan Cranston or Adam Driver or Sam Jackson or Sean Hayes or Kerry Washington...but means more than someone like Tom Sturridge or Alfie Allen. People know who he is, but I don't know if a sizeable enough number of people care about him from the standpoint of selling tickets at the $85-$150+ level, which is necessary for Broadway.
Maybe the recent Topdog pairing is an apt comparison? Or Chris Cooper or Tom Hollander or Gabriel Byrne, or the Blackbird duo of Michelle Williams & Jeff Daniels?

While not financially successful on Broadway, Hnath has consistently been one of the most produced playwrights regionally in the last decade

Speaking of, he’s scheduled to starting filming Armor Wars anytime between now and the end of the year. So if he is in fact in The Christians, then his Avengers film is pushed back again.

I saw this at Playwrights way back when - don't even think I realized Hnath wrote this at the time.
Evangelicalism is an evergreen themes so I would definitely check out a new production

According to IMDB Armor Wars is currently in production so it will most likely be done by the time he starts rehearsals for this

IMDB has had Armor Wars in production for over 2 years and as of January 2023, there hasn’t been a script yet. It was scheduled to film April to August 2023 but that’s apparently not happening. That’s why I said if he’s in this, then his movie is pushed back again because he’d be committed to a play for 6 months or however long.

If producers only put up works by living playwrights who have consistently had hits, we’d have no new plays on Broadway.

Again, it’s not my money. Produce whatever you want.
I do not see this being a hit. But maybe with no set and a name it could make some money. Who knows.

Are you implying Hnath is the Jason Robert Brown of dramas? (Ok, JRB may finally have a commercial hit in the Parade revival)

Is this a true ensemble piece tho? From reading info online it looks like it is…which makes me wonder if Cheadle while may be the biggest name they have will be paired with some other names
