Thanks. I was avoiding calling because I didn’t wanna pay the extra fees for ordering over the phone, but the customer representative said that the fees are the same regardless so I ended up buying tickets for part one and part two with one of my discount codes. Still kind of pricey even with discount, but I’m looking forward to seeing both parts on Sunday, January 5. Sitting in row M Center orchestra for both parts.

We were in the center of row L;  your view should be very nice.

You’re seeing both from roughly the same seat? That’s always best. I managed that my second time with the same seat in the front row (obstructed view, which I found out when first sitting down — kind of disappointing to have paid full price). Row M will be great for it.

Yes. I’m seeing Part 1 from M108 and Part 2 from M105. I had hoped to see both parts on Saturday as my New York work project starts on Monday morning. Luckily, the first day is pretty easy and my hotel is an easy 3 minute walk to my work site. And since I’m flying in on Friday, I’ll have gotten some of my prep work outta the way.

I saw both parts of the Angels in America on the same day too and it was thrilling. Of course, I was in the first two or three rows (with prices to match) for Angels. Still, good to know the view is good from Row M. I still could’ve waited to see if Audience Rewards releases any $54 tickets for Part 2 on that Sunday, but I’ll try not to dwell on that. I got my tickets.

Yes, The Inheritance is two slots. Also, already have cheap tickets through Audience Rewards for Tina, Jagged Little Pill, and Grand Horizons. 

I’m hoping to see The Sound Inside (Friday night), maybe Freestyle Love Supreme (10:00 p.m. Friday night), Oklahoma! (again) and Slave Play (both on Saturday) and West Side Story (Monday night).

The Sound Inside is stunning. What Cromer has done with it is so beautiful. Highly recommend.

Didn't read people's reviews on this one before going because I wanted to have my own experience, and the first half left me very emotional. The last scene is incredibly moving. Unfortunately the second half didn't have the same effect on me. The Fire Island stuff was so vapid. Perhaps that the point, but it left me feeling nothing. It got better as the second half moved on, but it never matched its predecessor. Toby's performance was outstanding and the others were very good.

Perhaps the Fire Island scene was vapid- because that scene itself WAS vapid- and the recreation was just portraying that. The Fire Island scene during the seventies was iconic- and showing what went on is important because that type of social interaction, if that is what it can be called- changed dramatically after the AIDS epidemic hit.

I acknowledged in my review that that was the point; it just didn’t elicit any type of emotion from me. And I’m not sure what you mean by talking about the FI scene of the seventies because the version in the play is clearly present day. You say “that type of social interaction changed dramatically after the AIDS epidemic hit” but clearly it didn’t. Promiscuity is still rampant, and perhaps that acknowledgement is what left me feeling cold and a bit sad. We’re so far removed from the epidemic now that people have fallen back into those same promiscuous patterns that caused the disease to spread to rapidly.

In some circles yes, and of course many also view (rightly or wrongly) AIDS now as manageable or preventable with drugs as opposed to the almost automatic death sentence that it was considered decades ago.

The epidemic ain't over.  I live in a country with free healthcare, and a city with a leading HIV centre at Vancouver's St. Paul's Hospital.  Prep is free. BUT still HIV transmision rates continue to increase.

Yes, it is a manageable disease. With newer Anti-retroviral medications infected individuals are not contagious and suffer fewer side effects.  Though speaking for myself, I have had to change regimens twice due to developing kidney stones. Those are friggen painful.

Unfortunately, according to latest statistics in Canada 14% of HIV positive individuals are unaware of their status - so not getting treatment  & are thus contagious.

Anecdotally, I know people who have been on Prep who still became infected, but drug addiction was also an issue for these individuals.   

As for The Inheritance​​​​​, I think the whole play is pretty vapid. I've only read it, & that was enough for me because it is all so shallow that it was obviously based on second hand knowledge.  The author has never been to any of those parties, has never had a boyfriend hooked on meth, has never dealt with a wacked out callboy.  I've lived, it ain't entertainment to me.  Give me Frozen or Aladdin instead.

But it seemed clear from reading it, that the party was present day,  & represented the whole meth scene where either no one cares about HIV transmision, or some mislead themselves that they're safe while on Truvada while wrecking themselves with party drugs,  and some actually fetishize disease transmission.

It's been mentioned a thousand times, on here. How can you judge a production without having seen it, just by reading it? Maybe go see it before being so certain about your "facts". 

This happens way too much on this site. Don't judge a production, especially with such certainty, if you haven't seen it. I'm sure if you spoke to the author he'd have answers to all of your claims. There's a reason why a 6 hour + play has had the success it's had in both the West End and Broadway (and no, I don't think it was perfect).

I saw both parts Sunday, November 10- so it is still pretty vivid in my mind- and sorry if I made a mistake about the Fire Island scene being a generation ago- if it was supposed to be in the present- I guess I did not remember that. But, anyway, I lived through the seventies- and eighties... etc. and to me the show and the scene was not at all vapid. It showed a scene the way it was- and maybe still is. After the AIDS epidemic- there were widespread changes in sexual behavior- and for many- that change has persisted. Not everyone of course. And if the Fire Island scene is still as decadent as ever- yes- that is sad, perhaps- but not al all out of place in a play about gay life- warts and all. 

     Personally, I love seeing theater about gay life- and I have seen so many great productions- recently Skintight- which I also loved- love seeing gay life dramatized in all of its guises- love it- and I am thankful to see a play on Broadway that deals with important issues of sexuality and identity relating to gay men. For me, it was a joy.

Not sure if you've seen CHRISTMAS CAROL at the Lyceum yet but I'd recommend seeing it (even though it'll be after Christmas when you're here in NYC.) I recently rewatched the movie LONGTIME COMPANION last weekend after seeing THE INHERITANCE a few days before and just realized Campbell Scott, who was one of the leads in LONGTIME COMPANION movie, is starring as Scrooge in CHRISTMAS CAROL! Also, Mary Louise Parker was in the movie too and hope you'll get to see SOUND INSIDE on your trip.

Longtime Companion is one of my favorite films. All my friends I saw it with at the theater died. I need to watch it again.

I did get ticket to The Sound Inside. In fact, of my 10 slots, I only have 3 slots left. Sadly, A Christmas Carol is not in the running.

Inception's response to the text (I've read it as well) is a powerful annotation, coming from someone who has experiential knowledge. An important post.  I find that everyone mentions "Angels" without acknowledging either "The Normal Heart" or its less successful (and less impactful) cousin, "As Is."  "As Is" is barely remembered anymore, but "The Inheritence" actually reminded me of it in several key places, particularly part one.  Younger posters unfamiliar with the play who want to read another account of the early epidemic might explore "As Is." We had two plays about HIV/AIDS in NYC at the same time, and though "As Is" never earned the respect of its peers, it's a powerful piece of documentation.

Saw both parts again today. It allowed me to perhaps more objectively observe its faults while also re-appreciating its strengths. Jake Odmark was in as Young Man 7/Jasper/Paul Wilcox. At stage door, he said it was only his second time going on.

After seeing both parts again, I agree Part 1 is stronger as a whole. That’s mainly because I think Part 2 has more melodrama, most significantly in Part 2 - Act 1. However, Part Two - Act 3 has so many spectacular reflections on love and loss and how they are linked, most significantly powered by Lois Smith’s performance. Tony Goldwyn was even better than when I saw his first performance last month. I hope both are not forgotten come Tony season. I’m pulling for Lois in particular to win.

I cried quite a bit during Part 1, most significantly at the end of Act 1 and Act 3. But I sobbed at the end of Part 2 to the point that the lady behind me offered me Kleenex after curtain call and asked me if I was okay before she left. Lots of thinking about my friends who died and lost loves. I was able to pick up better on all the various form of inheritance, too.

I bought the magnet which they were out of last time. Then when I returned for Part 2, I bought the Names tee and the Broadway script which they had unexpectedly received between Parts 1 & 2.

Pretty much the whole cast minus Lois Smith stage doored and they all signed my copy of the script. They were all lovely in the freezing cold, taking their time to talk with us. Samuel H. Levine even remembered me from last time due to my fashion sense.

The comparison to Rent dawned on me today. Other than some common themes, both have been faulted for perceived failings. However, both have a powerful effect on me and others. They’re messy, flawed and incredibly powerful. I know this may not be the strongest play that’s opened this season, but emotionally I hope it does well at the Tony Awards although I know it’s got stiff competition from plays that are better reviewed. I’d see gladly see it again. Speaking of which..,

One of the ladies behind me at Pt. 1 said she is friends with one of the producers and she said they intend to keep pumping money into it until Tony season so that all the voters have a chance to see it with the hopes that if it wins Tony awards that they might have a better chance towards recoupment although I find that doubtful. Tony awards really only matter for best musical in relation to box office. But anything that keeps this play running for more audiences to have an opportunity to experience it I am all for.

Well, I certainly didn’t make up the conversation and I found her believable so I think either her friend fibbed to her, he told her what he hoped would happen, and/or he and the other producers changed their minds. I know it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m sad to see it go. Glad I got to experience it in its entirety twice.
