I was there tonight and loved it. Show went on without a hitch. They handed out guitar picks to people in line. First preview I’ve been to since Groundhog Day. Very few shows I’ve wanted to see immediately after viewing, but this was one of them. I’m jealous of everyone seeing this for the first time.
Add me to the chorus of those who saw it at the Goodman and LOVED it. I hope it’s well received here.

Just picked up a ticket to see this Tuesday night after reading the rapturous thoughts from all of you! The code SEEME on BroadwayDirect.com knocks the prices down quite a bit for certain performances. Really looking forward to this. I don't know much about this show, but I'm excited to find out!

My Lottery Seat for last night was Orchestra Left Seat F19. An Aisle Seat. Its listed as Partial View on the Ticket. You miss anything in the back left corner of the stage. Just entrances and people dancing. Dont feel like i missed anything of real significance.
I won lotto and seats were in row A (5 & 7), off to the side. Slightly obstructed but the view wasn't terrible at all. It is a very loud show so consider bringing some ear plugs!
I thought the show was incredible. There are so many moving pieces, the entire show is one beautifully choreographed dance. For me, there wasn't a weak link in the cast but the standouts were all of the Tommys (Olive Ross-Kline and Reese Levine were on for the first preaches). They're all doing some pretty stellar work, especially Ali, was was magnificent to watch work that close up. What a voice too!
Special shoutout to an incredibly hard-working and talented ensemble, this show highlights them each really well and I appreciated their solo bows at the end.
My only complaint, and they have time to fix this, is the sound. At times it was hard to hear the lyrics because the bass and band just overpowered all of the voices, but once they play wit he mixing in the house I think they'll find a good medium.
Overall, I had an amazing night and I think this is sure to be a hit! Can't wait to get back.
Curious about running time reports. Listings/reviews in Chicago had it at about 2:10. Hoping to sprint from a 2pm matinee in a few weeks to a 5pm Oh Mary. (the 2.5 hrs mentioned here has me worried now haha)
I sent my family tonight and they left before intermission because they couldn't understand a word over the orchestra. Mentioned it to the front of house but still left. They'll call support tomorrow, but were all very disappointed in the sound, but impressed what they had seen so far visually. A shame.
THIS WAS THE LOUDEST THING I'VE EVER BEEN TO AND I HAVE BEEN TO A COUCH SLUT CONCERT! AMAZING VISUALS AND SOUNDS AND ACTING! HOWEVER I TOOK A GUMMY RIGHT BEFORE I WENT IN AND IT KICKED IN DURING "SEE ME, FEEL ME" SO THAT WAS COOL AND THEN I JUST SAW PURPLE AND GREEN SWIRLS. IT WAS A GREAT TIME BUT SEVERAL WALK OUTS. IM SORRY IM USING ALL CAPS IT JUST SEEMS RIGHT
"Tommy, can you hear me?"
I CAN HEAR YOU GUYS IN FU*KING PARAMUS BRO! GODDAMN!
Agree that the show is way too loud and needs to be taken down several notches. I also did see alot more empty seats after intermission, which I can only imagine had to do with the sound. I did hear complaints that it was ear blasting. I’m hopeful this is fixed.
People on Reddit saying “iT’s PrEvIeWs, YoU eXpEcT sOuNd IsSuEs!” except we didn’t pay for them at those prices. Will report back once my family contacts customer service. Sounds like they weren’t the only one who couldn’t handle or even understand the dialogue through the noise. That’s a customer service issue hands down.
Is it as loud as Matilda? That's the last show designed with the bizarre idea that everything should be played at heightened volume. It rendered whole scenes so impersonally - as if actors mouthed a soundtrack - that it left intimate moments feeling canned. But Matilda is still a traditional book show, and I'd be the first to argue that Tommy has its own stylistic aesthetics in its DNA. I'd expect it to be blasted. The last B'way iteration had a swell sound design. And was one of the most thrilling nights of the era.

They did this during the previews of American Idiot too with plenty of walkouts. Liza Minnelli was seated in front of us and turned to her companion and said it’s hurting my ears and left. I don’t know if they ever lowered the volume but it was louder than at any large rock venue or metal concert. Metallica, Guns’Roses, Porno, Rage, etc don’t amplify their shows that loud — a Broadway house shouldn’t be doing that. It’s not giving them rock cred. It’s just hurting fans ears
