I am anxious to see this in it's final state. From what I have seen, it is so promising even with my quibble with some of the design choices. The cast is really strong and the score incredible. I am sure it will all come together and surpass Sound of Music and Peter Pan. Perhaps this will actually be NBC's apology for Peter Pan!

I absolutely love the way that NBC staged Peter Pan ladt year, and unabashedly and unapologetically list it as my absolute favorite rendition of the show, to the point that I now find it difficult to listen to any other version of the material without doing a compare/contrast with NBC's production of the show.

 

I mention this, BTW,  because I have never seen or experienced The Wiz before, and have the feeling that iNBC's production is going to 'spoil' me for the rest of my life should I ever have an opportunity to see a different take on the material in that I will be using it as a 'benchmark' just as I now do with the network's production of Pan.

This special got me even more excited for this. The staging is well done and the score sounds great. I love the style of the sets. The led screens looks great. I was skeptical about them at first but now i am in love with them. This looks amazing. I cannot wait!!!!

Thanks for your advice SNAFU, but I don't think Teddy needs you to defend him because he has the Wiz on his side.  Why must we all tolerate the endless shilling?  Thank-you.

 

 

Teddy, i truly think you can be as excited as you wish, I just wish you would go be excited somewhere else.

LOVED pretty much everything I saw- however, MJB's line delivery seemed a little wonky, and what they showed of No Bad News isn't giving Mabel King, Ella Mitchell or Tichina Arnold a run for their money. But since we are just seeing a rehearsal and not the actual performance, I will reserve judgment till after the Broadcast. still VERY excited for this production!!!

Yeah, they showed a lot of very early run throughs with costume camera tests. MJB's acting not be up to snuff in these clips, but her singing, from what I have heard, is awesome! She might very well surprise us on the 3rd.

 Perhaps i should stop sharing for fear of being seen as a shill.

I haven't seen the special but I am relieved that my ears will at least be listening to some A+ vocals this year. With the previous broadcasts, on top of worrying if the casting/design/etc. would match up, I worried that the vocals wouldn't be strong enough. But, this year we really have such amazing vocalists on board. I'm especially excited for the soundtrack!
