Yes, because Parsons talents are SO above this material. Please...

Cabaret and commercial off-Broadway are impossible models in this current era, and most of those venues are closed or on their last legs. Shows have no choice but to aim for Broadway if they want to have any life at all, let alone enter the touring, cruise ships, and licensing markets. I'm sure that after its Broadway run, this show will have no trouble being performed worldwide in the spaces you've deemed "appropriate" for it.

In a crushing world, maybe we shouldn't be confining queer camp joy to tiny cabaret spaces. Titanique knows exactly what it is: a unique, silly, little-musical-that-could in an increasingly beige, uncreative Broadway landscape. I'll celebrate that any day.

I thought it was absolutely hysterical. Not an upstairs at the Duplex cabaret show at all. I’ll be back to see this one again very soon.

As an out-of-towner, I've never put Titanique high on the list of show to see on my frequent but short theater trips to New York, mostly because I hate the movie and have never been a Celine fan, although I do appreciate her bountiful campness and  was unexpectedly awed by her Paris Olympics performance. Reading this thread, though, is making me think that since I loved Rudetsky's "Disaster!"  in its St. Luke's  iteration and all those "Forbidden Broadways" and Judy and Liza drag shows I've seen over the years, not to mention the downtown "The Jellicle Ball,"  I need to put this on my May trip list? I'm I thinking "straight"?

Jordan Catalano said: "Apologies to the staff at the St. James this afternoon on because I pissed myself laughing for almost two hours (no clue why the preshow announcement says it’s 90 minutes when it’s not).

Everything is bigger for Broadway, the incredible sounding orchestra, the fantastic new set, everything. No matter how many times Isee this show, I will never not cry from laughing and getting to see Constantine and Marla together again is such an amazing gift. Today’s adlib story was Jack auditioning for Jamie Lloyd’s Evita “which is coming to Broadway next year, so I hear” that devolved into talking about Heated Rivalry and the hockey twinks having anal sex, taking his d*ck out and c*ck slapping everyone who worked on “And Just Like That”,a story about Constantine in Brazil trying to hook up with guys and meeting a dwarf porn star and “Seussical”.

And for this cast, Melissa Barrera - what a talent. Brilliant comedic timing and a gorgeous voice. Let’s prayshe does a lot more theater after this show. And how funny is Deborah Cox?! I mean, who knew??? Really there isn’t anyone who isn’t perfectly cast in this.

This is the absolute gayest thing playing in New York (including Oh, Mary) so let’s rally the rainbow troops to support this show and make them the Broadway hit they deserve to be.

Ok, gotta get ready for another show tonight I’m on a roll this week

Was there tonight and I completely agree with everything here. For context I saw this off Broadway with Amber Ardolino as Celine. Marla is definitely the front-runner for lead actress in a musical (and I think she will definitely win). Jim Parsons was hysterical. What you said about Melissa Barrera I absolutely agree, but I gotta say the real breakout of the show (which I don't see a lot of people talking about enough) was Layton Williams. He won an Olivier for this in London and having seen him I more than understand why. I really do believe he's a strong contender and front runner for Featured Actor in a Musical.

The ad-lib story tonight was Jack thinking about Kristi Noem and her husband Bryan and how he might be into cross-dressing which lead to them role-playing a scene of them in the bedroom they say "im gonna dresss you up like a barbie" and they bring out a jacket and a red wig for Constantine to put on. they also referenced Luke Evans in The Rocky Horror Show which lead to an impromptu sing along of Time Warp

You’re right. I actually heard they sold every ticket at a premium price and had to open the balcony to accommodate the mob of prospective ticket buyers. I heard they were all waving around blank checks and throwing $100 bills at the box office staff to get in.

Holy Ship.

Well, my concern that the show was of suitable scale for this house turned out to be totally unfounded. They really took their scrappy little off-Broadway show and made it into one hell of a spectacle. Granted, I do miss some of the low-budget bits that gave me some big laughs downtown (and the set too), but I found it to be the same mindless fun as I did when I last saw it.

The updated jokes are absolutely off the wall and I was audibly guffawing many times, although I am curious how much of the book has changed from downtown, to London, to here since I feel like some stuff was very new. I’m definitely here for the beefing up they did of Ruth, presumably to get Jim on board, and he did NOT disappoint. I half expected them to water it down as he is not known as a singer or dancer. But he got his lipstick and character shoes on and RAN with it like a full out camp queen on steroids. I was thoroughly impressed and, of the featured performances, I would actually score him for a Featured Actor nod. Melissa Barrera was also the surprise of the night because she took her ingenue vibe and squeezed all the comedy out of it, and also has a great set of pipes - she could make a second career out of this.

Marla and Constantine were reliably great, though Marla seemed a little shakier in her Celine voice than before - though chalk it up to being the second show at the end of a long week. She did nail the improv bit, which was a scatalogical gag about “Easter Eggs”. Deborah Cox, reliably, belted her ta-tas off with “All By Myself” as only she could.

I wish I could say I was thrilled by Layton Williams, as I absolutely love him as a performer, but his Iceberg just did not hit for me (bah-dum-bum) the way I wanted it too. I can see the West End going crazy for it because it may have played better in the smaller house and Layton is a know entity over there, hence the Olivier. However, it felt very much swallowed up amidst this cast and staging and I did not see the compelling reason he was imported from London when many performers here in NYC (some who are even part of this company) have done it before and done it better. This could’ve been a huge break for Avionce Hoyles, Polanco Jones, or Kyle Freeman, and I think punting that opportunity was a mistake.

Overall, it was worth the $60 I paid and I’m gonna see it again probably. I would recommend it for those looking for absolutely brainless entertainment and a collective of really gifted performers. Have a few drinks, pop an edible, and go enjoy yourself.

I was in the second-to-last row of the mezzanine last night, which I was actually happy about. I’d seen the show in both of its Off-Broadway spaces and was curious (and a little anxious) to see how it would translate to the absolute barn that is the St. James. The answer? Better than expected, but it still feels somewhat out of place at the end of the day.

I’ve been really fascinated by the venue selections this theater season. Some have worked fabulously (CATS), others have made absolutely no sense (BEACHES), and some huge swings have panned out excellently (DEATH OF A SALESMAN).

TITANIQUE falls somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. When all is said and done, this is very much a niche, camp, capital-O-F-F Broadway show. So much of its charm - and frankly its impact, particularly with the orchestrations and vocals - came from the intimacy of the Off-Broadway experience. The Broadway mounting does what it can to mitigate those issues, but it can only do so much, particularly for the crowd in the cheap seats.

The sound design was a little wonky last night - lots of balance issues. Marla is still a total delight and a complete hoot. Deborah Cox absolutely shut it down with her solo, Jim Parsons was honestly very funny (though I did miss Russell Daniels) and Frankie Grande was a damn mess. If you put a gun to my head, I couldn’t tell you a single word they “sang.”

It’s an entertaining, if uneven, transfer. And it is absolutely not 90 minutes, so I wish they’d stop pushing that. It’s a solid 2 hours - it would be all the better for a few cuts to get it to 90, but here we are.

This season is such a mess for new musicals that I’ll happily take “uneven but entertaining.” It’s head and shoulders above BEACHES and QOV, but I have a hard time seeing how they’ll get people to fork over $150+ for this barring all-out raves, which I’m not convinced will happen.

Is there a chance this could actually end up being the Best Musical winner or not a chance? It's such a weak season for new musicals I really can't tell. It seems like this has started with a little more buzz and momentum in this barn than feared.

Queen of Versailles & Beaches have no chance, Two Strangers is a darling and the only truly original property, and we are awaiting the reviews of Schmigadoon and Lost Boys.

They are definitely in the nomination mix, but I would put it a distant second to Two Strangers right now. Personally, I wouldn’t vote for them

I don’t think this has a real chance at Best Musical, but I wonder if Layton Williams might win featured actor. He was the best part of the show as far as I’m concerned, plus he won the Olivier and the category is weak as hell.
