TUCK EVERLASTING musical opening on Broadway, April 2016

The Tucks are (finally) heading to Broadway! The musical adaptation ofTuck Everlasting will open on April 17, 2016 at a Shubert Theater to be announced. Directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, performances will begin on March 19; the production premiered at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre earlier this year, starring Andrew Keenan-Bolger. Casting for the Great White Way incarnation will be announced later.

Featuring music by Chris Miller, lyrics by Nathan Tysen and a book by Claudia Shear, Tuck Everlasting follows a young girl and her friendship with Jesse Tuck and his family, who become immortal after drinking from an enchanted spring. Based on the 1975 children’s novel by Natalie Babbitt, the story has twice been adapted for the screen.

The production will feature scenic design by Walt Spangler, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and sound design by Brian Ronan.

my guess is that this takes either the Belasco, the Broadway or the Broadhurst.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I know the original source material, but I am not completely familiar with this particular adaptation. Who is this show for? What is the market for this?

I have not seen it, but from what I've heard its very much like the audience for Matilda, a kids show for adults.

I saw it twice in Atlanta, once with Carolee and once with Beth. It was good, but needs a lot of work. The ending is great, but there are several boring scenes and songs. They are pretty much marketing it to the Matilda type audience

Has anyone here heard the score?

I really like Fugitive Songs, but not so much The Burnt Part Boys.

Wondering if this score has any Bluegrass influences.

I will definitely see this if Terrance Mann is in it, although I know next to nothing about it. He has been one of my favorites since I saw him in Les Mis and I thought he was criminally under-utilized in the Addams family (unless his role was increased after the Chicago tryout, which is all I saw). I hope this turns out to be good. Since the Addams family is the only thing I've seen him in as an adult (was just a kid for him in Les Mis) it would be great to see him in a not terrible show. (Or at least it was pretty terrible in Chicago...)

YES Terrence Mann. Anybody else chuckle about him playing "the Mann in the Yellow Suit?" Lol.

I read the book when I was about 11 or 12 and really enjoyed it, though I found it to be quite sad. I think it will translate beautifully if they do it right. The film adaptation screwed up Winnie's age. I got a weird feeling Sydney Lucas might step into the part since she's leaving Fun Home this year.

yeah it was very well received out of town, but idk if it will hold up with Hamilton, School of Rock, Waitress, American Psycho and other musicals coming in. I hope Allegiance is a hit too

The girl who played it in Atlanta was 10. By comparison, Sadie is about 13. I wish she could play it (I mean, how old is AKB compared to his character), but I'm guessing it may not happen.

I wonder when they'll announce the full cast for this, assuming most of the Alliance cast transfers?
