It plays The Kennedy Center, The Ahmonson in LA and a venue in Toronto this summer/fall. I'm guessing that they're hoping for a ton of great reviews and positive word of mouth to create a big advance sale once they announce a NY opening.
I also respect this path as it will really give the creatives a great opportunity to polish the show as much as possible before it opens on Broadway. DEH took a similar path, playing The Kennedy Center and off-Broadway before transferring.
"
DEH played Arena Stage, not the Kennedy Center. A number of shows like Sideshow, Bright Star and Gigi were at the KC before Broadway; but not Dear Evan Hansen.
But on that note Dave the Musical WILL be at Arena Stage this summer with its eye on a Broadway transfer. Additionally looking to make a potential transfer is Beetlejuice which has its initial run scheduled in DC at the National Theatre this fall."
Actually no. DEH played Arena Stage in DC and THEN the Atlantic.

Right, I confused it with TBV there. But the point was that it first played in DC, then off-Broadway and then transferred to Broadway. Sorry for the confusion

Since "Girl from the North Country" was announced early for the 2018-2019 at the Public, might there be a possibility of it transferring to Broadway in the Spring? And it's a musical, right? Or a play with music? I've heard it spoke of both ways.
Still sad only one musical revival has been announced.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
All that we've heard is that The Secret Garden is having a workshop. If it goes well, I suspect we'll be hearing about a Broadway production within this season.
Part of the point of BWW is to get information about the theatre world, which is why I started this thread: to have a streamlined place for people to see which shows are confirmed coming in next season. I didn’t bump it to discredit anybody; I bumped it because some posters expressed uncertainty about upcoming new shows. And this thread has the answer to some questions. Solipsist, I’m not sure why you’ve been so uppity and weird about what I post since you joined (particularly on this thread, which many users have thanked me for), but you can back off now.

Thanks for stating this thread and bumping it. Very useful. Until now, I thought The Ferryman was a musical for some reason! Lol I am now officially not interested in any of the new musicals but several new plays and play revivals.
It's been over a month since we've gotten news of any show coming in this season. Spring 2019 is looking rather bleak at the moment.
Any word on Tootsie, Moulin Rouge!, Hadestown, Ain't Too Proud, Tina: The Musical, Girl from the North Country, Beetlejuice, Jagged Little Pill, Dreamgirls, The Secret Garden, or Crazy for You? Anything possibly coming in outside of those?
The Moulin Rouge thread says Summer of 2019. Girl from North Country is mentioned in another thread as transferring. If any of the others don't materialize, I agree, it will be a weak musical season.
Dreamgirls just held some auditions, so I'd say it's extremely likely for the spring.
No one actually knows anything about Moulin Rogue! (I've only seen guesses on this board), but I'd say it could go either way (2018-2019 or 2019-2020).
A lot of shows just need to see how their try-outs go/are waiting for shows from past seasons to die in order to get a theater.
Anyone think BE MORE CHILL could sneak in for 18/19 or 19/20? Would their rabid fanbase translate into ~8,000 people a week? Maybe it would depend on reviews.

Out of curiosity, how far in advance do most shows announce a transfer?
Interesting how the most hyped shows have no dates or venues yet: MOULIN ROUGE, HADESTOWN, AINT TOO PROUD, JAGGED LITTLE PILL, TOOTSIE, GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY. Here's hoping we get a heads up soon!

It all depends on the theatre situation, the money, the actors/creative scheduling, etc. Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Groundhog Day, and Come From Away all announced 5-7 months in advance. I'd expect a few more spring shows to be announced in the next 1-2 months.
If these shows are indeed coming in.... Maybe HADESTOWN is waiting to announce it with a theatre after the London opening on November 2 Maybe TOOTSIE is waiting to announce after the reviews come out in Chicago. If the reviews are total pans, for example, then they'd be able to rethink the production schedule. NETWORK's transfer probably depended on theatre real estate, cast/production team schedules, and raising the money for a big expensive play.
I just want to point out how many theaters are currently vacant for Spring 2019: Booth, Cort, Golden, Imperial, Lyceum, Marquis, Walter Kerr, and Winter Garden (eight total).
And very possibly the Al Hirschfeld, Belasco, Circle in the Square, Hudson, Lunt-Fontanne, and the Sondheim (another six).
