Posted: 6/7/09 at 6:48pmCan't wait for them to start here. I had hoped to go to them this year as today is my birthday but a little thing called the recession happened and those plans got scrapped. So it is me, my tv and a bottle of wine!

WELCOME TO THE TONYS.
And the first joke was funny... at least they're off to a classy start with these two fantastic performers.
Stokes was an amazing Sweeney and he def. should come back to Bway... maybe in ANYONE CAN WHISTLE? He'd make a good Hapgood.

HOLY CRAP! A TIE!
The first award is a tie... that is one of, what, six or seven in the history of the show?
FIORELLO/SOUND OF MUSIC and TOMMY/KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN score are the only ones I can think of off-hand.
The set looks cool this year too. Love the skewed skyline and the neon and blues.
Laura Benanti is unbelievably sexy.
I think we have a Fay and Hapgood for ANYONE CAN WHISTLE.
P
P.S. My final prediction: N2N best score, BE best musical.

Watching the pre-telecast awards webstream. Anyone know what music the orchestra (which sounds spectacular, btw) was playing as the winner of the Tony for Best Lighting Design for a Play took the stage? I want to say it was maybe from Light in the Piazza?
Laura Benanti's Tina Fey impression is pretty amusing.
