You can make a pretty big name for yourself by doing a stint in one of the biggest roles on Broadway...

Her blog actually makes it sound like she IS going into Wicked, but can't say it yet.
Of course she's in a position to turn down roles. She did that a year ago when she dropped out of the Les Miz revival to Spring Awakening, when it was going to be an off-Broadway outing with no immediate plans to transfer to Broadway. She did it because her heart was in the role. In other words, whatever decision she makes will be the result of her desire to play a role, not desperation to have a job. For that matter, she could probably re-up with SA for quite some time if she just wanted steady work.
i have no idea whether or not Lea is going into Wicked (and i dont really care...) but i find it really hysterical how everyone here is guessing whats best for her and her financial situation.
if she decides to play elphaba you think that will ruin her chances of later originating roles? do you think if she originates a new role after SA she would then not play Elphaba or Eponine or whoever in a heartbeat?
Please. stop speculating- everyone sounds so foolish.
and im no SA nut, but i never heard that she misses many shows- that seems like another vicious stupid rumor. appropriately linked to that "other" vicious stupid rumor about a vocally injured donna murphy.
oh, queens.

Ourtime, Lea was cast in Les Miz when Spring Awakening was in rehearsals off-Broadway; she gave up Eponine to continue playing Wendla after SA announced a Broadway transfer.

Lea has never missed a performance....of the 3 Spring Awakening leads, only Jonathan Groff has missed a performance and that was to take a personal day...July 14th. Many thought Lea would take one that day too...she didn't...
I'm really sick of people painting this girl to be this horrible person.
....Except that she has missed at least a performance. My cousin saw her understudy.
Lea had a vacation before, and she's one on right now. And she's also missed other performances due to other reasons.

Why does everyone have the need to bash Lea? She had a SCHEDULED vacation in April for 3 days, missed two performances in June, and is on another 4 day vacation now. If she took one straight week off, instead of two half-week vacations, none of youn would be criticizing her, so due to "being tired" as some of you like to put it, she only missed two shows.

I don't get why people get so upset over people saying things about certain performers. Does it really hurt you that bad to hear someone say that she took a day off? I mean, jeez, life goes on.

It would be impossible to do the show every night for the six months it's been running. Your voice would be ruined. She needs to take a break.
P.S.-How do people know when the cast members are going to leave before they actually do?

And yet, hundreds of Broadway singers manage to perform 8 shows a week for years, without ever taking time off.
Ethel Merman never missed a performance. And she didn't have a body mike.
Wasn't Merman out when she burst a blood vessel in GYPSY?
Good for Ethel Merman.
You are in essence saying that no one should ever miss a show, no matter what. Anyone will tell you that time off from your job- any job, be it law or medicine or broadway- improves your performance greatly.
sniping at lea michele because she missed 5 shows in the 8+ months shes been on bway is the epitome of snooty bitchiness that really really plagues these boards.

The whole Ethel Merman thing is bull****. They have good understudies for a reason. If Ethel had a great immune system, good for her, but I'd rather see a fantastic understudy than the lead hacking her way through a performance. Performers are human, and they should not show up to work when they are sick. The comparison to showing up for your job, like working in an office, is stupid. Or sure, you can say I show up to school everyday, she should show up to her job everyday. However, her job is very physical. You can relax in your chair at school or in your office, but you can't in a broadway show. So everyone needs to stop with all this business.

Ethel Merman missed many performances throughout the course of her career...
YAY!! MICHAEL BENNETT IS BACK!!!!
Thread-jack for a moment...
Is it true that Carol Channing has never missed a show of HELLO, DOLLY?
Lea is a lead and Wendla originator, but it's not like it's
Lea Michele
in
Spring Awakening...
... so what's with the outrage over her missing a few shows?
Regarding her talent.... She's a pretty girl with a pretty voice, but I see pretty girls with pretty voices every day at auditions. I have yet to see anything from Lea Michele that knocks my socks off. But I do look forward to seeing more of her.
And, based on the threads and posts regarding her, it seems like most people here are at least intrigued by what is coming next for her.
I personally thought the myspace blog was just her saying that the rumor is not true and although she wants to be Elphaba in Wicked, it's not happening anytime soon.
Okay, I would love to see Lea play Elphaba and wish with all my heart that my parents would let me see Spring Awakening, but I kind of have this feeling that Elphie's a little out of her reach right now. Yes, she's pretty and she's popular, but prettiness and popularity don't get you Elphie. There's no doubt in my mind that she'll do it someday, but I think as of now she's more of a Nessa. And, really, what exactly is wrong with being Wendla?
