I'm thinking about going to my mom's house in Jersey tomorrow night to watch the broadcast on the huge HD screen. I'll be able to rock the **** out with Keys. Updated On: 6/14/08 at 12:44 PM
When I first saw it I had a headache and was next to the speakers. I had a very bad time, but I took a leap of faith and bought the CD and now I adore the show. So... Yah
I believe we enter from a different entrance than the celebrities. I'll try to make myself known somehow during the broadcast. Maybe by screaming "SCARYOTYPES," or something. We'll see.
Is anyone going to post DURING the Telecast (during commercials?)? I'm having a small party here, soooooo......if drunkeness doesn't take over... I just want a BENKY SPECIAL REPORT from Radio City Live by Tuesday the latest.
The whole family will be watching tomorrow night, and hoping for the best. And remember, it's an honor just to be nominated, right?
And I've already got a ticket for Tuesday's night's show, a celebration or consolation, either way I'm sure Stew will have something interesting to say.
Interesting post on ATC of all places. The show is not that different from the Public, as I remember. Only a few songs were added, but most were expanded and fleshed out with narrative and/or orchestrations. Anybody remember the L.A. number??
Passing Strange tunestack - any cut songs?
Posted by: dlh 08:41 pm EDT 06/14/08 This is the list of songs in the Public Theatre production of Passing Strange, according to Variety's review:
"Baptist Fashion Show" "Freight Train" "Arlington Hill" "Must Have Been High" "Welcome to Amsterdam" "L.A. WAS ALL IN MY MIND" "Identity" "The Black One" "Come Down Now" "Love Like That"
I haven't found any other mention of the song "L.A. Was All in My Mind." Was it cut from the show or is there an alternate name for it?
The B'way production's tunestack (according to ibdb) is as follows. Songs not included in the off-B'way list above are highlighted.
Act 1
"PROLOGUE (WE MIGHT PLAY ALL NIGHT)" ..... Narrator, Heidi and the Band "Baptist Fashion Show" ..... Narrator and Ensemble "BLUES REVELATION / Freight Train" ..... Narrator and Ensemble "Arlington Hill" ..... Narrator "SOLE BROTHER" ..... Youth, Terry and Sherry "Must've Been High" ..... Narrator "MOM SONG" ..... Narrator, Mother and Ensemble "MERCI BEAUCOUP, M. GODARD" ..... Narrator and Stewardesses "Amsterdam" (is this the same as "Welcome to Amsterdam"?) ..... Ensemble "KEYS" ..... Marianna, Youth and Narrator "WE JUST HAD SEX" ..... Youth, Marianna and Renata
Act 2
"MAY DAY" ..... Narrator and Ensemble "SURFACE" ..... Mr. Venus "DAMAGE" ..... Narrator, Desi and Youth "Identity" ..... Youth "The Black One" ..... Narrator and Ensemble "Come Down Now" ..... Heidi and Desi "WORK THE WOUND" ..... Youth and Narrator "PASSING PHASE" ..... Youth and Narrator "Love Like That" ..... Narrator and Heidi
With so many new titles in the B'way list, I presume that most were already part of the show and are merely newly identified as independent numbers. But perhaps some of them have actually been newly written since last summer at the Public.
So my question: which songs were actually cut and which were actually added? And which songs were retitled or titled in subdivided pieces?
I know it's a bit OT --- but if you are in NYC over the next two weeks try to catch Jollyship -- The Whiz Bang.....A Pirate Puppet Rock Odyssey. Went tonight with my sister and we are already planning to go again next week....it's really difficult to describe...but the music rocks...in a Hedwig/Punk way/ --- the drummer could easily sit in for Christian Casan in PS.
