I can't quite explain why, but I am *so* amused and tickled by the bell ringing. Just the idea was hilarious to me for some reason, then I saw the video and almost fell off my chair laughing. Granted, I'm easily amused these days cause I'm home sick, but, still. It's so silly and random, and I love it.
I think the story about the commencement address was also posted on BWW. I could be wrong, but I think I saw it somewhere on the site.
I miss this show soo much. I hate being a broke college student stuck upstate... *sigh* Hopefully, my family will get me tickets for my bday in August.

Eight more days until I see it again! I am taking my girlfriend and her brother. He isn't interested in musicals, but I'm really excited to take him to see this because he seems so genuinely interested in the whole rap/hip-hop aspect in a broadway show.
He's seen Curtains, Xanadu, and Mama Mia, so I am excited to take him to see a show that I think he'll actually LIKE! :-P The fact that my girlfriend is going to be seeing the show with me makes it 10x better too. It's going to be such a great day. The fact that we've been living a long distance relationship and have been dating for two years now that she's been away at school/work, makes it really special that we get to see this fantastic show together.
July 3rd! Woo!
And yay, I turn 18 in a half-hour! June 26th! Updated On: 6/25/08 at 11:25 PM
That's so nice JudasIscariot! I am also excited that this show has opened up eyes of people who would normally have no interest in broadway :) I hope you have a wonderful time and happy 18th! (in 15 minutes)
won lotto tonight, last name called! I was sad to see Lin out, but I figure if I am going to see the show multiple times, he is bound to be out a few times. Javier was good. His acting was sharp. His faces were priceless when reacting to people. To me, the show is different without Lin. Usnavi kind of falls into the background. Javier does not control the show like Lin, and you realize Usnavi is not the biggest part of the show. It was interesting to see the show this way.
I can't say which show I liked better: ITH w/ Lin or ITH w/ Javier. They are both full of energy, yet the story hits you differently. It's really hard to explain... sorry I'm doing such a poor job. I'm going to stop trying now.
Javier's rapping was also different. The rhythm of the words on some lines, specifically "maxipads and selling fuzzy dice to taxi cabs. I think it was so that he had time to breathe. Lin can do that rapping in that sleep, which is why he can run through it so seamlessly without us noticing his breathing. What else was weird was I am used to listening to Lin's voice, his inflections, and his movement. Javier definitely brought something unique to Usnavi and I really respect him for it. He wasn't Lin-Manuel Miranda; he was Usnavi.
Lastly, does anyone know why Javier said "Man, I better get on that" instead of "goddamn, I better get on that"? I know Lin said "man..." at the Tonys, but did they change it for good? Just wondering!
Alright, I'm tired, and I have work tomorrow. If you have any questions, I'll be around!
That's good to hear. When you have a show that is kind of built around one person and when there is such a strong link between the actor and character like this it could be hard for an understudy to have to go on. In some ways it's hard to remember that it is Usnavi and not Lin in the story on stage. But it's good to hear Javier did a good job.
Also, Carlos sounded VERY sick last night. His voice kept going in and out during Inutil, and he could barely sing "Calling all taxis everyone relax please," because I'm guessing the line is too high. I wouldn't be surprised if he's out soon.
Though, his character didn't bother me yesterday as much as it usually does.
I'm going tonight too. For the first time ever. :) I'm so excited. I'm just hoping that Lin-Manuel Miranda will be there tonight, since I've been reading that he wasn't there last night. But still, I think I'll enjoy it anyway if he's not. Plus, I do understand if he is really sick.

Testing, between you and your wife, how many performances of ITH do you guys see a week?
I've seen it 4 times: 3 times you were there, and once your wife was (last night). HAHA.
Javier has a very nice voice, which makes his Usnavi so different. It's a lot less rough, but makes him sound sweeter and more sensative (not that Lin isn't). It's good to know that In the Heights does not suffer without Lin, meaning it can stick around for a long time. From the buzz around the theater, the audience loved it anyway, and everyone said "I love the music, I want to get the music". So, while Lin wasn't there in person, he was there with his score and that is what makes the show the best musical of the season!
