<< Testing, between you and your wife, how many performances of ITH do you guys see a week? >>
LOL--- usually, 3.. Weds is her night, because she is off from work on Thursdays- I usually go on Thurs, and then we usually alternate Friday.
So, just got back. Lin was back in, but you could tell he was struggling. I give him props for going on tonight !! The lottery was absolutely packed !! Probably the most crowded that I have seen it.
Not the first time this occurred to me, but for some reason, I could not stop thinking tonight about Andrea Burns not getting a Tony nom. She is so incredible !!!
I am now officially hooked. :) It was soooooo amazing! And thanks to whoever told me about the last three rows of the rear mezzanine. I was a little skeptical that I was not going to be able to see, but I was wrong. The seating was perfect because nobody really got in my way because of the height gap between the rows. Okay, the scene where Benny and Nina were up on the second level, Benny's face got blocked out by the light post on my side, but that still isn't too bad.
I also went straight to Virgin Records after I finished up my Bryant Park expedition and breakfast to get the recording. It was only $17.95 there vs. $30 at the theater.
Oh, and just a couple of complaints, but not about the show at all. Just about stupid audience members in front of me. Some older woman actually brought her video camera to record it. Thankfully an usher caught her and made her stop. I think if that hadn't happened, I would have been bothered the entire show. And the funny thing is, this woman did not come back for act 2. So I don't know if she ended up not liking it, or got kicked out or what. And there were also just a couple of bored kids in front of me who almost started fighting in the middle of it. Thankfully their dad stopped them. But that is definitely the sure sign to not take your kids to shows like that.

Marianne, I'm so happy you liked it. I had a fidgety kid next to me the 2nd time I saw it. I so wanted to tell his parents to remove him as he was totally bored and really irritating those of us in the vicinity.

I did not have the time to stage door last night unfortunately. I needed to get down to the Zipper Factory on 37th for "Don't Quit Your Night Job." Maybe if I go see it again I can do that.
I'll admit, I did have an interest in seeing the show after hearing about it here and the Tony performance, but I was still skeptical about really liking the music. I'm not really into the kind of music they used usually. Well, at least it isn't on the top of my like list. I also cannot stand rap music at all. But I guess since this was tastefully done, it was cool. Obviously since i bought the recording, I did enjoy it. I'm also listening to it right now. :)

Okay, so I now have a question. I never thought about it until this morning. Most of the time on Broadway, you need to be a good singer to be in a musical. So, I was wondering if Lin-Manuel Miranda is a good singer or not, since his character only raps in the show. I also don't recall him having any musicals to his credits, except for all of his work on "In the Heights." I mean, it's still cool that he has been working on this for years now, and finally made it to Broadway. I just would find it interesting. I mean, maybe just being production and all that is more his thing. I know it is a little bit for me.

Usnavi doesn't just rap. He sings as well. Sure, it's not belting, or high notes, but he does sing. Lin can definitely carry a note, so I'd say yes, he's a decent singer. Just because this is his first Broadway show doesn't mean it's his only musical theatre performance to date. He's been in other musicals as a student, and has talked about it in interviews, etc. While composing may be his "thing", Lin's also a very gifted performer, and probably has a very bright future as an actor, whether in musicals or not.
Besides, there are plenty of musical theatre roles that don't require a lot of singing. He could always be the Man in Chair in the Drowsy Chaperone 2030 revival... Updated On: 6/28/08 at 01:58 PM
