I completely agree with staticradar, after first seeing the cast perform on the Tonys it's quickly gone from awe to full on obsession! I can't get the soundtrack out of my head and what's even better is that it's never just one song that's repeating in my head. Sometimes I'm jammin out to "no pare, sigue sigue" other times it's lyrics from "Blackout", right now I'm stuck on the first bit of the "Finale".
Anyways can someone explain to the southern boy how exactly lotto works? I've only been to NYC twice one w/ fam when I was young and about 3 years ago with my school so my show tickets have always been taken care of for me. What are the pros/cons? Do you get better seats? or cheaper seats? Should I just go on and pre-purchase for the show I want to see?
Also other random question, do you feel the show loses depth for those non-spanish speakers in the audience? I do a love the spanglish mix but I figured I'd get the opinion of those who've seen it already.
I'm obsessed with the Finale lately, and I'm not entirely sure why. I love the bolero singer's part in the beginning.
Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm personally not ok with being quoted on another site. Nothing personal, I'd just rather not.
And to answer your q, architectw, I believe the show can and is loved by people who don't speak Spanish, and/or isn't latino. But there are elements that can't fully be appreciated unless you speak the language and are part of these cultures. It's just natural. The show was sprinkled with tons of really neat culturally specific jokes, or homages, references, etc; little things that mean a great deal to nosotros los latinos, and that usually go unnoticed by most audience members. In The Heights is a representation of different aspects of our culture, so naturally, our perception, and reaction, is different.
But on the whole, the themes are universal, and as long as you find translations later for the bits in Spanish (and even without that) you can certainly see and understand the show's depth. Heights is made to be loved by anyone, and, as its fanbase proves, it is.

I don't want to be quoted either, sorry.
To answer Architect's question: I speak Spanish, but I took my best friend who doesn't understand it at all. She LOVED the show. Sure, there were some things that she didn't get, but I think on a whole the themes of the show are pretty universal.
<< I'm really starting to fall hard for this show, haven't seen it live yet, but am going end of July, do you think they'll still have rear mezz available day of? In case we don't win lotto (which probably we won't, but gotta try right?) All I know is I have to see this show when I'm in NYC hopefully more than once.

I would definitely buy them at least 2-3 weeks in advance !
You guys are so lucky! My dad won't let me go to NewYork to see this, since I just went. So I guess I'll just be stuck with my cast recording when I get it tomorrow or Monday!
Hi I am making an In The Heights fan site and was wondering if I could use some of the posts on here as quotes and reviews. Like I would say... "bsadasdsad" -Drunk Chita Rivera from the Broadway World Boards.
Two things. When did I say that? And I run the ITH Fan Site (FYI)

1. You didn't I was just using a random name as am example.
2. You run the fan thread.
Musicalmaster - Chita runs a whole fan forum (I'm one of the moderators). The ITH official website has it listed on there.
theheights.brightforums.com
Yeah, it's an entire forum. We have about 140 members and many threads and topics.
I know I post almost everyday. But why can't there be more then one fan site?
You can make it but I am just saying it's not needed. Who are you on the forum?

When I start getting the site running I will post it.
Is everyone ok with that?
No.
Although, I do appreciate you asking first. Even if "Is everyone ok with that?" is not the best way to phrase that.
I just had to flip a bitch on the mods on a Facebook group about someone taking stuff I've posted here, not crediting me, and posting it on the Facebook group as their own. And I've had issues with stuff I post here being completely just c/p onto other theatre boards. I 'know' you never really own anything you put out on the internet, but I am really *over* that. If I wish to be quoted on your new forum, I will join your new forum.
Anyone else see today's "AMNY" paper? (unfortunately, I am at work, and dont have access to a scanner)
Its wrapped with an "ITH" ad !! Has Lin on the front and says "2008 Tony Award - Best Musical"
The back has another pic with the list of the other awards.
Very cool to get signed and frame.
Ah!
Can someone scan for us non New Yorkers? :)

Not a forum, a site!

Hey I got 2 rear mezz seats, row F seats 26-28, on July 19 matinee.
1. Are my seats good?
2. Are there any scheduled understudies that day?
I believe that is the last row--- end (2) seats towards wall (away from aisle), but the view is still absolutely fine-
Not sure about planned absences that day--- I know Andrea is out in July, but I think closer to the end of the month
