The Short Moments That Make a Song Fantastic!

Does anyone have those moments in a song where it is only about 1-2 seconds but you love it so much?

My Examples:

The buildup and orchestra "button" in the beginning of "Stairway to Paradise" in Crazy for You!
BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"

the last notes of defying gravity are superb. I also really like it in Blood Brothers when Light Romance changes into Madman. Mrs J holds the note then when the music goes nuts she screams MICKEY! There's a lot to choose from really... when lea is singing ALFOR and she makes the noise like she's in pain, it's so realistic, the end of the confrontation scene from Miss Saigon when John is singing one thing, ellen and chris another and Kim another... then she goes into that little solo.
Jesus Loves You... Everybody else thinks you're an idiot!

In Out Tonight, while she's doing her Ouuuuts, there's this other music in the background that gives it an innocence I love.

"How I Know You" from AIDA. The section of overlapping.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

In the Act I closing, in Sunday in the Park With George, the last "on an ordinary Sunday" always gets me. "On an ordinary" is a capella, and then the orchestra comes in on "Sunday." *Shudder* Gives me chills, every time.

I have many more, but they're escaping me, at the moment...

I love the entire song, but definitely the first few chords of "Seasons of Love".

To add to the end of "Defying Gravity" (I love all of that one too), when she sings "So if you care to find me, look to the western sky..."

And the beginning of "Every Story is a Love Story".

I dont know the song, but it is either the last or 2nd to last song when amneris goes, "from deep within the tomb a gentle light still shown, showing me my path as i ascended to the throne, certain in my heart that ancient wars must cease, the lovers death gave birth to a reign of peace."

SO beautiful!

In Passeggiata, from Piazza, whenever Fabrizio sings "to the place that I know"
awkward.

re: The Short Moments That Make a Song Fantastic!

What immediatly pops into my brain is mostly the recent stuff:
Little Women- Small umbrella in the Rain: "I won't be sweet, won't be demure"

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels-Son of Great Big Stuff: "And I get laid, now theres a perk"

Light in the Piazza- Love to Me: "When your hat is carried in the air, just so you can chase it, just so I can be there"
So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.~Office Space

I definitely agree with the end of Act I of Sunday... Also, in Little Women, the part of Some Things Are Meant to Be when the both sing "We'll be mad, and explore.
We'll recline a loft upon the breeze.
Dart about sail on wit with ease.
Pass the days doing only as we please, that's what living is for."

During One Song Glory when Roger sings "time flies, time dies!" and belts the "dies" part and much heavier instrumentals come into play. There's something about that moment that gave me chills. Also beginning chords of Seasons of Love, the reprise of Every Story is a Love Story and a bunch of others but I don't think anyone is interested in reading the whole list. :-P
I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart. -Scrubs

from Pacific Overtures:

It's the fragment, not the day.
It's the pebble, not the stream.
It's the ripple, not the sea.
Not the building but the beam,
Not the garden but the stone,
Not the treaty house,
Someone in a tree.

Bridge into short moment: "Everything I promised was for them I was theirs no matter where or when "

Short moment "How can that be lost for ever? HOW when I gave everything with all my heart!" From the Fire within me From Little Women that always does it for me.

If we're doing Millie, this is my fav Millie moment re: The Short Moments That Make a Song Fantastic!
Not for the Life of Me: "Clap-a-your hands, just-a-because
Don't you know that where I am ain't where I was"

Not the most brilliant lyrics, but I adore the sentiment and the tune...

Caroline or Change:

"Noah the moon shone so bright when she played her bassoon that last Chanukkah night, oh do you remember the way that it shone?"

So beautiful with the music. You can feel him exhale after he realizes where his life is!
