Carlos Leon has been nude on stage before, so it may be him.
If not, could slip Chris Carmack into this production as the "stunt nude?"

I'm really unclear about something...this is the Wallace Shawn adaptation of Threepenny Opera. What are people expecting? Something polite? Rudimentary knowledge of both the show and Shawn's work should clue folks in to the fact that it will be dark and strange.
I'm, frankly, very excited for this.

Posted: 4/27/06 at 2:09amIt's Lucy Brown who flashes for a split second. I just saw the show this afternoon.

Posted: 4/27/06 at 2:14amIt's a different attack to the piece, which I find amusing. I can see why critics hated it though. I enjoyed it, and hopefully you will too. Go see it.

Definitely don't pass on it. It's not for everyone, but it does have it's merits.
And the nudity is not only unnecessary, but barely visible.

Posted: 4/27/06 at 12:05pmOk I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but if all of you are really interested in Threepenny you would have read at least one review, right? And i think just about every review I've read has said that Brian Charles Rooney (Lucy Brown) flashes the audience. Yes, I can understand why you would think it was Alan, but honestly just skimming through the reviews will tell you a lot. Sorry, to be blunt.

Posted: 4/27/06 at 12:08pmOk, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but if you are interested in Threepenny you would see that when everyone was talking about Alan the show hadn't even started previews yet. All of those posts were speculation. Yes, I can understand you might have not realized that, but honestly looking at dates will tell you a lot. Sorry, to be blunt.

Posted: 4/27/06 at 12:18pmI'm sorry. ur right. I neglected to look at the dates on the posts. I was just really frustrated about what the posts were that I didn't even look at anything else.

hehe boxers7
This always happens when old threads are resurrected. People forget to look at the dates we posted. Although in this case, it should've been obvious, since we were talking about how the previews hadn't even started.
I'm glad it wasn't Alan who did the flashing. That's all I'll say on the subject.

Well, everyone else walks around in tight speedos...so whatever.
I was hoping for a flash of the little horse you-know-who is riding, if anything.
The nudity really is unnecessary.
I guess you have to fill the seats somehow.

It's the silliest bit of excess in a show that has far too much. Give me Cyndi in a spot singing "Solomon Song," and the rest of the "concept" trappings seem like the college theater bushwa it is.
Whats pointless about this "nudity" is that we get it when Lucy flashes Polly. To show us, too, is not only lurid, but it doesn't have anything to do with enhancing this "concept." Does anyone NOT know Lucy's gender after 10 seconds? This isn't CRYING GAME. It's an identifiable drag performer -- and I'mn not trashing him, he does his job well.

Don't forget, Auggie -- there are still people who gasp when Mary Sunshine's wig is pulled off in Chicago.

first of all, I am not a drag performer... I am an actor who is in drag playing a role. Unfortunately this is my Broadway debut, so no awards for me or notices for me for being EXTREMELY versatile (after all, I have played roles like Bat Boy, Tony in West Side Story, Homer in Floyd Collins, etc.)
I will know have to do what most other actors don't: try to fight for something traditional to play, whereas actors are always fighting for something edgy.
The point of the flashing, and it IS necessary, is to create this kind of reaction. It worked. You said that it doesn't matter that Lucy has a penis - and thank God you did say that, because that was the point of showing the audience. The gender isn't important. Whether or not you arrive at that conclusion conciously or not isn't important :) Also, it's a brechtian device to show Polly and then turn and show the audience.
I have been incredibly frustrated that people didn't read the bios in the playbill, and just assumed that I am a downtown drag performer. It's a little disrespectful when there is plenty of info out there about all of us in the show.

Preach it, BCR!
Don't think everyone thinks the nudity is unneeded. Some of us "get it."
For me, this debut is one of the most impressive debuts I've seen in years and years. Congrats!
