While I'm sure there are more than I can think of at the moment, and "Forever Tango" aside, does it seem like there are a lot of tango-themed songs in non-tango-related musicals?
"Tango Maureen" from Rent, "Morphine Tango" from Spider Woman, "El Tango de Roxanne" from Moulin Rouge, "Cell Block Tango" from Chicago and another one or two I can't quite remember...
Would this count as a its own genre of song types? Moving the story along with a tango-influenced song that has tango in the title? Sort of like "Requiem for ___" or "_____'s Theme."

There's "The Sailor's Tango" in HAPPY END by Weill & Brecht.

I suppose a little segment of "The More We Dance" from DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS would be tango, whether in terms of choreography or just the fact that Christine dances whilst wearing red. :P
I absolutely adore "Tango Tragique" from SHE LOVES ME, I can't believe it is no longer part of the show.

Bare Naked Lads Singing in Provincetown do their OWN rendition of the ubiquitous tango song - take off from the one in CHICAGO - "they should have been ashamed" - FUNNY OMG 'crack whore, uh-oh' you'll HOWL!
Some of those I hadn't thought of... But to BrodyFosse's point, I was actually referring more to those songs that are called "Tango..." as much as those that really fit the definition of a tango.
I was mainly noticing that plot points were being moved along in scenes that generally revolved around a tango (or pseudo tango) AND called the scene or song "Tango..." I know it doesn't have to SAY tango to BE tango, but my point was the large amount that DO say it... Updated On: 8/27/07 at 02:43 PM
