For those that have seen it, are the seats that are on the far left and/or far right orchestra, bad seats? I'm trying to get tickets now but the only ones popping up within the next few weeks are on the extreme right and left.
Thanks. If someone could post or PM me, that would be awesome. :)

did anyone sit on the edges of the theatre??? how are they for this show?
Every seat is a good one in that theater.
Yes, all of the seats in this theatre are fine. I was in the front row on the left side. At one point, I thought Norm Lewis was about to land in my lap. Not that I would have minded.
Lucky you. Would love to be Norms love slave.
WINKS.
oh oh oh, i can hear the bells.

I'm so glad to hear that the seats in the front row left are good. That's where I'll be. And just when does Norm Lewis swing on by?!
lc
I hope this show moves to Broadway.
It is outstanding and needs a long term run.
So far it was my favorite show i have seen this season.

I smell many a Drama Desk for this show...
I want a CD now!
Ha ha. I want my cd now too.
But would rather sit in Norms lap.
There was a scene where all the slaves scatter and go running. Norm ran right to the ledge in front of me, and I thought for sure he has going over into my seat...
This might be the best show I've seen lately, but I also saw Spelling Bee, and now I can't decide!
Need to see Bee.
Thanks for the advice. I actually wound up getting row B center seats for May so it'll be a nice surprise for the parentals. :)

so did i made! i kept getting edges, but then this row b center seat just popped up! but i'm going in march.
Corine, you SO need to see Bee! I'm surprised you haven't already, actually...
Well there are only so many hours in a day. Started a very demanding job full time and have two other part time jobs.
You could say i am exhausted. Exhaustion is a great thing when you are doing what you love.

I saw Dessa Rose last night. I really enjoyed it....more so the second act. I am a fan of LaChanze, and very glad she was in last night (she seemed to miss a lot of perf when she was in Ragtime), but it was Rachel York that stood out to me. True, I did want her to have some songs to really belt out (there weren't any), but I was so impressed with her acting. I thought she was fantastic. When the whole cast was on stage, my eyes were always drawn to her. I loved her in this show. I would recommend seeing this show. By the way, I bought my ticket at TKTS $38. Sat on the far left, 3rd row, and the seat was great. I love this theater.....very intimate.
I am seeing the show tomorrow!!!! I can't believe that in like 20 hours I will be in New York, for a week!!!! I CANNOT wait to see this show! I am so excited!!!!! I'll post my reviews once I get home. YAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought this show was amazing too. Saw it on Ssunday, but haven't had time to post about it until today. The score is at the level of the great Flahrety (sp?) and Ahrens scores ("Once on this Island," "Ragtime"), and the show was incredibly moving. I loved that it was about women and their relationships with eachother, and I loved how dramatic and emotional it was.
I'm not even exagerating when I say this show has renewed my faith in the musical as an artistic form. It is ambitious in its topic, its themes, its characters, its storytelling style, and its music. I would love to see a show like this on Broadway, but its hard for me to imagine it would be commercially successful.
On a related topic, I have a new theory that Stephen Flahrety's music really soars when he is writing for African American/Black characters. Like, his emotional connection is so strong that his musical goes beyond technical skill to the realm of emotional tidal wave. Thoughts?
AbzugFan- that would make a lot of sense, especially if you look at Ragtime.
I forgot to mention I sat in the same row as Luther Creek, and across from Anthony Rapp. I know they aren't HUGE stars....but it was cool to see them. ok all.....go see this show. I totally agree with you AbzugFan. With all the crap they are bringing to B'way, it's so great to see a small, simple yet beautiful show that has heart, and feeling. Refreshing.
Seeing it Sunday. You guys got me TOTALLY excited.
I am so jealous. I want to see it again.
NORM.
For those that have seen the show... by any chance, is there any "Dessa" merchandise for sale at the theater? Going next
Sat nite.
Really cant wait !!! TIA !!!
There was no Dessa merchandise when I saw the show a week ago.
This was the most powerful and emotional new musical I have seen in years. I expected I would be moved by La Chanze and the story and the music--and I was!--but I didn't expect to be bowled over by Rachel York's performance.
And it has the BEST final line of any musical ever. I gasped out loud (even if I did guess it from the rhyme before La Chanze sang it). Even so, I cried through the curtain call--when was the last time you did THAT?
Go, go GO! (And, yes, the seats on the side are fine.)
