A group in Chicago is actually making this! It's called "FRIENDS: The One Where They Sing! (An Unauthorized Musical Parody)".
Do you think this is a good idea? Would you go see it?

Well at this point. It's obvious you're involved with it so why don't you tell us.
I would not go to see it.

BWAHAHAHA....
I don't understand how you can make a musical based on a tv show. How can capture all those episodes within a 2 and half hour time frame. With movies it's easy, because movies are usually shorter than musicals.

Same way you make a movie based on a TV show.

A musical? Would the numbers be like "How you doin'?", "On A Break", and "BING!"? I'd like to see a parody, but more in a stand up/play sort of way. I don't know if a musical would work.
Not to mention that FRIENDS worked because of those actors. You cannot have Andy Karl play Joey Tribbiani (!!!) and get the same feels.

Addams Family, anyone?
Ummm . . . nevermind.
I thought Adams family was based on the movie.

Oh cm'mon. Nathan Lane was the only reason Addams Family was bearable.
I thought Adams family was based on the movie
Oh, geez. You ARE aware that The Addams Family originated in The New Yorker. The 60s TV series was based on this as were the 2 film adaptations with Raul Julia and Anjelica Houston. The Broadway musical was based on the characters that originated in The New Yorker. Though the 2 films and the Broadway musical did incorporate the well-known theme song from the 60s TV series, none of the adaptations were based on each other but the original source: The New Yorker.

I think any almost any theme or topic "could" be an entertaining musical
a challenge with friends is I think the actors playing the friends characters made the characters more than
the written characters themselves

I saw the preview they did a few months ago at Chicago Sketchfest and it was HILARIOUS! They didn't just poke fun at FRIENDS but at the whole genre of musicals! It also worked because they found a group of people who honestly seem like they were friends in real life! If it is anything like the preview it is going to be great! I found their facebook page...https://www.facebook.com/Theonewheretheysing/ but no press release yet?
Saw the Facebook teaser for the table read. This feels like a funny idea, but again - I'd much rather see an improv version than a full-length musical. Having said that, the cast has a guy double as "Ugly naked guy" and "Fat Monica"? I don't know about this...

Who knows. I know one of two of those people are veteran improvisors. I have seen both of the guys playing Chandler doing music improv around Chicago
are they implying that when Monica was fat she was the same level of attractiveness as an ugly naked man?
That's the way fat Monica was portrayed on the show.

So, it's basically like all the other TV/Movie parody musicals?

As an ugly naked man?

I guess I'll say it, since nobody else has.
"A FRIENDS Musical" and "An unauthorized musical parody based on FRIENDS" are not even close to being the same thing.
Lol.^ Ugly and geeky.

Ugly naked man lived in the building next door. The running joke became them seeing him doing random things in his window
The actual running joke was that they talked about him but the audience never heard or saw him.
