According to Dark Horizons, Sunset Blvd, Joseph & The Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Jesus Christ Superstar are being talked of. CATS too?

I can't see Joseph as a film musical at all.
Sunset Boulevard I can. Superstar would be good too.
But why turn both Joseph and Superstar into feature films when both were just done recently for dvd? Is it because these are filmed versions of the stage production.
Interesting that Hugh Jackman's name comes up for all three films as being possible for Joe Gillis, Joseph and Jesus. I've heard Hugh's name mentioned before in connection with the Sunset film, because of his prior association with the show in Sydney. He's listed as the favorite for Sunset.

A feature film would make exponentially more income than those DVD releases. Plus they'd still get the backend DVD sales on top of movie ticket money.
(Personally, I don't think 'Joseph's worth the effort but I think a strong JCS movie could do well in the theaters.)
Whatever happened to the Starlight Express DVD? Last I heard, it was in the middle of production.

And "Phantom of the opera" with Gerard Butler will be also soon a film!

After his acclaimed performance in THE BOY FROM OZ, it looks like Hugh Jackman is on the A list of every movie musical project in the making ![]()
I wonder what happened to the film project announced by the Steven Speilberg group for SWEENEY TODD? The last news I heard was that Sam Mendes was in talks to direct the movie. Also, in an interview with Hugh ( I think right before he was in rehearsals for OZ), he did mention that he is interested in the SWEENEY TODD movie role, if they would be willing to wait for him.

What's wrong with the '70s film version of SUPERSTAR?
Do we really need it filmed again?
Bulldog
Yea because the first JCSS film absolutely sucked
"Do we really need it filmed again?"
Hollywood's attitude seems to be if it was filmed once, let's film it again--and sometimes a third time. Usually, in my opinion, the remakes usually aren't as good as the originals.
I don't think many (if any) musicals have been remade, though. Anybody know of musical remakes?

The concept of the Jesus Christ Syuperstar film bugged me.
Jackman as Jesus??
I would burn in hell for lusting after Jesus if that ever happened...
Sallie, STATE FAIR for one. Neither is great, but the first is better.

The real question is- Do we need ANY Andrew Llyod Webber musicals filmed?

The REAL question is - we need anymore Twyla Tharp
The REAL answer is - NO
I agree with Bulldog ! There is nothing wrong with the 70's film version of Superstar. I personally like it a lot. Also, Joseph and Cats already exist in DVD as someone said. Now, Sunset and Starlight I'd love to see and be able to own !
Take care
I was reading about this on aintitcoolnews.com. Martin Scorsese is mentioned for director of Sunset Blvd. And for Bettey Schaefer? The names mentioned are Jenniefer Love Hewitt and...Britney Spears!
I love the 70s JCS film. It really captures the spirit and style of the original work. The new DVD version is just too glossy and slick. Maybe a better film version could work.
It's a shame the original plan of filming all his musicals for home release didn't happen, that way purists could of had a theatrical record of the stage productions, while adventurous film buffs could embrace the quite different movie incarnations. I am hoping for the best regarding Gerard Butler as The Phantom.
BoB - That is not the real question. No one "needs" any particular film at all. But I'm sure there are millions that would like to see them. If you don't want (or need) to see them, don't buy a ticket.
