Re: Tim Curry has passed away at age 80

Long before I ever saw Rocky Horror Picture Show, Tim Curry broke my gay little brain in the one-two punch of CLUE and his role as The Grand Wizard (shoulda changed that but ya know...) in The Worst Witch. The man sharpened my love of camp to a fine point.

Yesterday was an icon.
Today is iconic.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Re: Tim Curry has passed away at age 80

I wrote this tribute to Tim Curry after I found out about his passing today:

I know Tim Curry was much more than his role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but it’s the role that I most associate him with.

I believe I first encountered TRHPS once I departed my smallish hometown to attend university in 1985 to finish my last two years of my bachelors degree.

There I encountered other students (most of them pursuing degrees in the creative arts) that shared some of my interests (Prince, Stevie Nicks, etc.), but also broadened my exposure to other artists and works of art I hadn’t experienced before. TRHPS definitely fell into this latter category.

I remember on weekends, we’d sometimes drive to the legendary midnight screenings in Oklahoma City. As a kid who never felt “cool” or “edgy” in high school, it meant something to me to be included with my college friends who all seemed to be more hip than I was, even if I sometimes suffered from imposter syndrome.

I wasn’t completely out-of-the-closet then (that was still many, many years away). But this gave me a way to be somewhere in between. TRHPS was a safe place - no need to identify your sexual orientation. No need to explain or try to fit into larger societal expectations.

Sometimes I might have temporarily dyed my hair purple for the night. Sometimes if I had gone home for the weekend, my friends would pick me up at my childhood home on the way to the cineplex. I know my poor, conservative parents were perplexed by my odd outfit and colored hair, but to their benefit, they kept their comments to a minimum.

So thanks, Tim Curry. Thank you for Dr. Frank-N-Furter and so many roles across a vast career that both helped people escape their worries for a couple hours and sometimes even catch a glimpse of parts of themselves that they aren’t quite brave enough to claim, just yet.

Don't forget Cher. She turned 80 in May.

After ROCKY HORROR tonight, Paul Soileau, Jake Shears, and Luke Evans performed a special rendition of “I’m Going Home.”

Hopefully there's a video available. They posted they put up a memorial in the lobby for Curry.

I first saw him in The Worst Witch as well. Then the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Then It. He was in some of my favorite movies, and was one of my favorite performers. He is an icon and a legend. I’m glad he’s free from pain now, in a much better place, maybe entertaining everyone in Heaven. I am glad I get to enjoy his work over and over again, till I can see him there myself.

I bought that album way back in the 70s as well, and I still regularly listen to songs from it in my music library. It contains several great tracks.

It's a fun album. I also really like the two slow songs "Something Short of Paradise" and "S.O.S.". I used to lay in the dark and listen to "S.O.S."!

Re: Tim Curry has passed away at age 80

Just the other day, I ran across one of those social media questions about the best character introduction in film history.

Tim Curry’s star intro as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in Rocky Horror is very high on that list.

Same except my flashbacks take me to the 8th Street Playhouse for the Friday night midnight showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I loved his Fearless album. I will relisten to it today. Tim was probably my favorite Rooster as well.

On the other hand, Sutton: I am never disappointed by you.

His Greatest Hits and Fearless are available on Spotify, but it’s his wonderfully weird first album “Read My Lips” is worth tracking down.

There’s nothing quite like it. Imagine if Harry Nilsson and Alice Cooper tried to make a concept album about male prostitution together but kept getting distracted by random stuff instead, and that’s the closest you can get.

Found it and LOVE his cover of "Anyone Who Had A Heart". The orchestra backing him is wonderful.
