All Lea has to rehearse is blocking. I'm sure she's already very familiar with the material.
Lea as Fantine also means that both the West End and Broadway productions will have asian Fantines when Joanna Ampil takes the role from Jan. 29 to June 23.

She arrives in NYC the 3rd week of Feb. after her concerts in Manila and Cebu. She rehearses immediately at the theater and opens on March 6th.

Yes, she was the best Fantine I've seen to date. Joan is also doing a concert at the Carnegie with David Byrne featuring songs from a future musical. Concert at Carnegie

Update from Lea Salonga herself regarding her schedule at Les Miz. It was posted on 1/10/07 in her site:
"I'm getting some messages regarding my performance schedule and for how long my run in Les Miz is going to be. So, just to clear things up, I will be doing all the shows on any given week (unless I'm ill or injured), and will be in the production until the end of its run, whenever that is. Right now, it's been extended through the summer. Let's see if it goes on longer."

Lea launched her new CD in one noon time show last Sunday (1/28/2007) in the Philippines. She sung the carrier single of her new CD. She sang 'Promised Me'. Here is the link. Someone posted the segment of the show in you tube.
Watch the other segments. These are popular singer in the Philippines singing some of Lea's signature songs. She sang a part of 'I Dream A Dream' i the same segment.
Anyhow, Lea gave her Filipino supporters a full preview of "I Dreamed a Dream" on a TV show in the Philippines. It's her last television performance before she leaves for her Broadway comeback.
Nice...it is in there....singing I Dreamed A Dream. I think her style will definitely change when she starts rehearsing with the director. It's still a little too innocent for me.

This place is full of dirty old men
And the navigators and their mappy maps
And moldy heads and pissing on sugar cubes
While you stare at your books."
