I like the way UGLY BETTY handles the guest stars though. They do not get in the way of the story-telling or the center of the show. Salma Hayek was the only guest star that became a central character for the time she was on and that's because she's one of the producers and I'm sure it was a way to help her show take flight.
I would just love to see Bernadette Peters as Becki Newton's (Amanda) foster mother or Judith Light's old drunken sister. She was great on Ally McBeal but unfortunately was completely wasted on WILL & GRACE (a show that got out of control in terms of guest-star, by the end the writers had no idea how to put them in the show).
I hope they get some Donna Murphy in there too and since it's ABC, Deb Monk is bound to appear (having already guest-starred on GREY'S ANATOMY and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES).
