sundaymorning, it depends how well the house is sold. If it's not close to sold out, they're not going to give away SRO tickets at all. The past few nights, they've lottoed off the SRO tickets after the lotto, mainly because it was already on the brink of selling out and because the lotto crowd was so massive, they felt they needed to offer something to appease the mob. But if the show is sold out pre-lotto, you can still just buy SRO tickets.

knowing how
saw the show last night (friday). i have seen RENT many, many times between OBC and today. Let me say - first our seats were center orchestra row a 111 & 112 - so, we saw EVERY little thing!! my thoughts . . .
The second adam entered the stage the crowd went crazy - for at least five minutes (and then again once the entire cast entered). adam and anthony did NOT look old for the part - they looked just like they did 10+ years ago. although adam put on a bit of weight (i guess he can afford food now :)).
the energy on the stage was amazing - i had goose bumps from the second anthony began the show through most of the first act. anthony's performance was spot on. it was, except for a few minor tweaks, the same performance he gave when he started the show w/ the obc. adam's performance was SOO MUCH better then his original run. I mean the depth he brought to the character was so sincere! I thought, after reading this thread, that i was going to be disappointed - but, i was NOT - he was great!! (and i personally like norbert the best as roger - but that has changed after this performance) his voice was gritty and real and raw. i loved it. tamyra was great too. although, at first (light my candle) i was a bit nervous -but she pulled it off and she had me the rest of the night. i thought the chemistry between adam and tamyra was great too - i thought they really connected (again, it was a lot in the eyes and being so close i saw how much they actually looked and reacted off each other). her without you was beautiful and people were tearing up.
i did not Justin's performance at all - he can dance and he can hit the notes - but, you could NOT understand a word he said. i know the music and i had a hard time understanding what he was singing. i thought if he slowed down he could have given a great performance. troy was a great collins - his performance clicked and he has an amazing voice. i also LOVED merle as joanne - she can sing and she is the FIRST joanne i have seen that can pull off the phone scence. d'monroe was good too - i know a lot of people don't like him - but i give him credit for changing it up a bit when he does actually get to sing!
biggest disappointed - yup, Nicolette as maureen. and a LOT of people were saying this during intermission and then after the show. she is soooo loud and screatchy (sp?). she overacted the role (and i don't mean over the moon - because really that is the point of that song). i just hated the hair and really she left a bad taste in my mouth.
the ensemble was great -- props to maia as soloist #1 - she rocked the house!
in a nutshell - the night was perfect (except for nicolette) and i encourage you all to see this show with the two who made the show the success it is! also, this show is not dated as so many people complain. it is raw and the number of young and old in the theatre is proof that this show will have many more years on 41st!
I was there last night as well, and I have to say it was amazing. Anthony was really funny for the first act and Adam was amazing.. his acting has really improved. I personally love Nicolette I think she is great and really funny, and she is a very nice afterwards to all the fans. (BTW- she had just cut her hair usually its a little longer, but I thought it was cute.) The only sour point of the evening was the hundreds of obnoxious fan girls who were obviously only there for one reason and had more than likely never seen the show before. I have never seen so many people walking around in the Rent t-shirts and such (which I think is just tacky). The girl behind me was screaming in my ear most of the time and it was beyond annoying. The barricade afterwards was a war zone. I was in the second row at the barricade closest to 8th avenue. I am just under five foot, so when Anthony and Adam came out, I was pretty much shoved to the ground by people reaching over my head to take pictures and shove things through for autographs. The crowd even spilled in to the street and was not making room for the car Adam and Anthony got in to. I can only hope it calms down soon before someone really does get very hurt. Either that or they really need to implement what was done at Apple Tree (which granted, was a smaller crowd) and rotate people so that everyone can get something signed without having to shove and trample people. This one poor girl couldn't even get out of the mob and when it started raining everyone was screaming (to which I shouted that it was just water and to get over it ) Other than that.. it was an amazing performance and a great night.
Oh and btw, Nicolette was the only one to come through the doors with the barricade set up besides Adam and Anthony, the rest of the cast came out the other doors. and Adam messed up the words during Another Day I can't remember now which ones it was but I am pretty sure he switched "Looking for romance" with "You want to prove me wrong".
Has Adam even been coming out and signing anything? I was there on Thursday night and we were away from the barricades and a bodyguard w/ Adam walked right by us telling everyone to move out of the way, and he didn't come out of the doors w/ the barricades. And continued walking down the street avoiding everyone.
They both stayed for a good few minutes and went up and down the barricade on each side a couple times. Thats when it started pouring, and they actually standed in the rain for a bit signing things and then got in the car. Then one of them decided to roll down the window and the car was mobbed. It was crazy. My sister actually has a playbill with two of anthony's signatures since it was so crazy he just wasn't paying attention haha.
broadwayluver30, Adam came out of the doors with the barricades the three nights I was there and signed autographs. He wasn't feeling up to it on Thursday, I guess.
bwaylover86, I'm not sure there is really a way to realistically improve the stagedoor situation, logistically speaking. I think it sort of is what it is.

You probably didn't mean it this way, but it sounds like you think only those who have seen Rent before should be allowed to attend now. Not a very good policy, since I'm sure a major reason for Adam and Anthony's return is to bring in bigger audiences, and some of those fangirls might come to love the show for itself and return to see other casts. If you want Rent to stick around for a while, you should be glad new people are coming to see it.
Well, I'm going to see the show on Tuesday the 21st- do you think that the stagedoor will still be so awful? I'm hoping for the excitement to die down a little so that my mother won't mind waiting with me to get something signed

Chloe, I agree, that sentiment didn't sit well with me either. I think it's incredibly elitist to think that people that haven't seen Rent before don't "deserve" to be there for this. If they're as young as you're implying, maybe they weren't ALLOWED to see Rent until now and Adam and Anthony's return was the final persuasion point for their parents. Who are you to judge?

I'm gonna give the hope that the comment was made with the jist of people going to see it but not really caring about the story but more of the spectacle. This show means so much to so many, that it is very disheartening to think of people attending for the quote on quote wrong reasons and ruining the experience for others that care. But as sucky as that is, this is life, and those things happen everywhere not just at RENT.
We have a good thing going here with the return, just try and not let others ruin your experience.
BroadwayBoobs: I'll give all of you who weren't there a hint of who took the pictures ...it rhymes with shameless
MotorTink had it right. I am not judging anyone so please don't jump to conclusions and make quick judgments yourself. I am thrilled if this helps the show stick around longer, however its a little hard to enjoy the show and the message it represents when there is massive screaming going on at points in the show that it really isn't warranted. I never said they didn't deserve to see the show nor would I ever say that or think it so please do not put words in my mouth. If they end up loving it and coming back, good for them. I just feel if you are old enough to be seeing the show than you should be mature enough to sit quietly through it and applaud and cheer when appropriate so that it doesn't interfere with the show or the rest of the audience's experince. This isn't an N'SYNC concert, it's a broadway show.
We went last night, Friday, and for starters they did not lotto-off the SRO tickets. They simply announced after the lotto that they had SRO and partial view tickets on sale. We ended up buying partial view for $45 dollars, third row, great seats. Overall I thought Adam and Anthony were great! Adam seemed to be on autopilot and by that I mean that I believe that he has played the role for so long that he can still turn out a great performance and he doesn’t have to think about it. Anthony on the other hand seemed to still be finding little tears of drama and bits humor in his character: he still seems committed to finding every crevice that is Mark and for that he was the highlight of last night.
I thought that the rest of the cast was un-impressive especially Nicolette who played Maureen. She failed to sell me as the character and midway through “Take Me or Leave Me” I almost started to hold my ears simply because I found I could not take her voice. Even the female soloist during “Season’s of Love” failed to make this song as inspiring as I have found it in the past. My overall grade: B-
The Stage Door
If you want to get a good spot at the stage door leave before the end of the finale. I know this sounds rude but it’s true. The stage door was a mess and I actually felt that I majority of the fans could not have been ruder. The poor stage door manager kept yelling at them to get off 41st and it was if he was speaking a foreign language. In addition when Adam and Anthony came out the fans would not stop yelling at them to come over and sign. Now granted it was clear from the beginning that they would sign for everyone, that is still no reason to yell at them. Furthermore when they did sign there was no thank you’s or any sign of gratitude. I simply made it a point to say, “Thank you Mr. Rapp for a great performance.”
Overall I recommend to anyone to see these two while they are still in the show. I would warn anyone though to beware. I found the fans to be rude and disrespectful, and do not expect see a musical. Too me the audience made this feel more like a concert. Updated On: 8/4/07 at 05:14 PM
Just got back. Wow, that was wild !!! The crowd went absolutely insane when the show started ! (outside, was a bit scary- Looked like a cross between "Wicked" and "SA"!)
Both Rapp and Pascal sounded amazing !!!
The stage door? Totally, out of control (had no intention of hanging out) . Seriously, I felt bad for the people that were waiting. It was crazy!)
I don't want to imply that I don't believe in thanking people. However, considering the stagedoor is so chaotic they don't even recognize a friend of theirs 3 feet in front of them and calling their name, you're only saying "thank you" to pat yourself on the back, because chances are they probably didn't even hear it.

Today's show was terrific. But no kidding about the stage door- the scene was really crazy! People were crammed together in 90 degree heat to the point where they spilled out onto the street and the sidewalk across the street waiting for the actors to come out.
At first I considered hanging out to possibly see Adam and Anthony but there was just no way with that crowd.

I was at the matinee today. It was my first time ever seeing Anthony and Adam perform live. I've never been a big fan of Adam's voice (from listening to cast recordings and seeing the movie), but he totally changed my opinion today. His voice seems to have changed a bit for the better--it's just so strong and solid. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Anthony, in my opinion (and I'm sure mostly everyone else's!) is the perfect Mark. I had seen the show 20+ times before, but had only seen two other actors in that role, and Anthony made those two look like they were community theatre actors.
As for the stagedoor--I only stood on the side and watched. It was complete bedlam and like everyone else has said, if this keeps up, someone is going to get hurt. There was very little control at all, people were standing in the middle of 41st Street the entire time. If someone doesn't get hurt by getting trampled at the barricades eventually, then surely someone will get hit by a speeding taxi in the street. They definitely need to change the way the barricades are set up so people aren't on top of one another.

Totally agree. I saw him a ton of times in "Aida", but his voice has seriously gotten MUCH better. I also notice on "...Glory", that he belted "Glory" in a much higher key than I was used to hearing.
Expanding on the whole stage door madness.. they really need to get some security there !
