Posted: 11/17/05 at 5:51pmI really don't know Cole Porter at all(except of Kiss Me Kate) and I was told I needed some Cole Porter songs in my Musical Songbook repertoire. What are some good Cole Porter songs for guys? My schools library has a lot of Cole Porter song books and I checked one. I'm a tenor/bari-tenor.

John Barrowman put out an album last year or early this year of all Porter songs. You might want to check it out. It has a particularly stirring version of Miss Otis Regrets which someone mentioned earlier in this thread.

My all time fav Porter song for a male is "I'm A Gigolo" wonderful lyrics -
"Go to one of those all night places and you'll find me running my paces, pushing ladies with lifted faces round the floor")
"I Happen To Like new York" is another great song.

Also look at "They Couldn't Compare to You" from Out of This World--it's a virtuoso patter section in the middle.

I think guys can probably sing most Porter songs...there are only a few that are gender-specific, and even those can be switched if done right. I've never heard a guy do "Love for Sale," for example.
