re: What do you think the next show to close will be?

Rumor has it that when Joanna Gleason left Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Liza was offered the role of Muriel but turned it down because she cannot keep up with an 8 shows a week schedule anymore.

Can you imagine if she had actually done it?!

re: What do you think the next show to close will be?

i think YF will probably be the next to go
I went in the summer, and the theater was not very full (and that when megan mullally was still there)
I think with megan gone, plus the fact that it isnt even reporting its grosses = closing

{tos} i would rather not close since it is so unique. The cast is one of the most innovative crew to hit the great white way in years. As much as YF is NOT pulling in the big bucks, it still is eye candy to tourists. Xanadu might but for what its worth it, i think that with a few cast changes, with putting in maybe an A list hollywood name could give it the edge to barely stay on broadway. But who am I to guess....

pack of vultures
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

"I think January 4th is going to see a lot of closings."

Any chance that Gypsy is one of those shows? I noticed they are only selling tickets until January 4th. Not sure if that's a sign of anything. I thought it was going to run until around March.

re: What do you think the next show to close will be?

Well, if ticket sales keep a steady decline like they have been, GYPSY could very well close in January. Winter is rough for almost every show and GYPSY only really saw overwhelming financial health in the week or two weeks after it opened and the week or two weeks after Patti, Laura, and Boyd won the Tonys.

I could see it going before Patti's presumed exit, which many think will also close the show, in March but I could also see them holding out just two more months for Patti's contract to run out...

But there are a lot of shows doing a lot worse business that need to be a lot more worried than GYPSY...

re: What do you think the next show to close will be?

I haven't seen the show and I don't wish it any harm but from what I understand it seems they should of kept it Off-Broadway

Should HAVE. And no they shouldn't have kept it off-Broadway.

Someone PM me about this Xanadu stunt casting, please?

Deena .. its one thing to say [tos] is papering, but it completely against rules of any papering organization to announce in a public forum like this one what shows they are offering. You should know better, and if PBP management finds out that you posted this, your membership could be revoked.

re: What do you think the next show to close will be?

After reading last week's grosses, I figure that Title of Show is the next show to fall. As others have commented, it should have had an off-Broadway run. Oh well.... from RC in Austin, Texas.... (not welcoming Hurricane Ike this weekend....)
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

re: What do you think the next show to close will be?

AStack75, that was one of the shows that I had in mind for that date. The latest Patti LuPone could conceivably leave is March 1st. If the show can do decently through September and October, I'm sure the producers would be confident enough in the show to have it run through the other lean months of January and February. If it doesn't do all that well in the next two months, I could imagine the show closing up just after New Years.

This is all pure conjecture on my part, though.

I, too, am dying to know about the Xanadu casting mystery. PM anyone?

It could still be Liza (just for the sake of argument), because didn't Ben Vereen tour with her in Europe for a bit? Thought I remembered reading that somewhere.
