I was informed Dollypop is having it shipped to his VANDERGELDER storage facility, which already houses a few productions of HELLO, DOLLY!, including the original 1964 Broadway production.

I always thought some of the items would be auctioned off to fans.

I thought unused scenery and props were stored and rented out to regional theaters? Or the companies that produced them originally would take them back and repurpose to future productions.

Almost all sets and costumes from tours eventually are sold. There are a number of theatrical companies who buy and then make available sets and costumes for rental.

As far as I understand, sometimes whole scenery and costume packages are bought, stored and rented out by a regional theatre or a separate company that rents out scenery and costumes but the key is they're bought. If no one buys them they're destroyed. It costs too much money to store scenery and costumes if they're not going to be used.

Dolly has been done so many times that I'm sure most rental companies have their own sets. The drops in this production is what is worth saving. Everything else could probably get the match. Costumes will be repurposed. You think the set is still standing at it's last venue? I am sure the crew and truckers were sent home right away,. No?

Costumes are rarely destroyed but often scenic elements are.

Posted: 4/13/20 at 12:59pmThe original sets are often made available for local productions. The last few times that the Gateway Playhouse did DOLLY! they used the original Oliver Smith sets. Those sets didn't improve the quality of the productions, though.

If this is about COVID-19, there's no danger in anybody using them, even a month from now. This is an airborn disease. It does last up to a certain amount of time on objects, but there is not yet any indication this is a way to become infected.
And if this isn't about COVID-19, don't get your hopes up, you might just have to build a costume yourself, if you really want one.

Goodspeed Opera has a stunning collection of costumes available for rental. You can browse through their warehouse here.

This is about a tour that shuttered early. Nothing about the physical, production carrying the virus...
I wonder if everything is sitting somewhere in the Hello Dolly truck? 420

Not to threadjack, but that's not quite entirely true. From W.H.O.: "The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales. These droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth. People can also catch COVID-19 if they breathe in droplets from a person with COVID-19 who coughs out or exhales droplets. This is why it is important to stay more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from a person who is sick."

In recent years, the Gateway has done DOLLY twice. Thete was.the Mimi Hines production that was horrible (all the Sunday Clothes were white) and Mimi was supposedly quite I'll. That was about 23 years ago. Then they did it again about 10 years ago without any "names" and it was absolutely lackluster. Cornelius stole the show. Both versions used the original Oliver Smith's sets.
