wow...cool
so, where are these sources coming from? out of your heads, or from people who work on broadway?
this is exciting!
I don't like the idea of the lion king at the minskoff, it seems to large and too cold for the show. It's not disney-esque at all, quick ?. I know fiddler's color is blue but was the theatre always painted blue frm the underpass to the lobby and up?
The breezeway was painted blue for Fiddler.
I wouldn't necessarily assume that the theatre is going to look the same if Disney moves The Lion King there.
Remember when LION KING first opened there was rumor all around that Disney was toying with the idea of opening a duplicate production in a second Broadway house in to have two productions running simultaneously? I wonder if there was ever any truth to that rumour?
(But I'm not saying that this is their current plan. Just thinking back to when LION KING was new.)

I wouldn't put it past them Morosco.
I wouldn't be surprised if they moved Lion King there at all. It would work. And is it just me or is the balcony at the New Amsterdam horribly cramped?
It would make perfect sense for LION KING to move to the Minskoff. The show is still hot and this would give them plenty more seats to sell. Seems like it would be a smart move.
Moving to any theatre wouldn't hurt that show. Well unless it was like the Helen Hayes or something, but you get my meaning.
The Minskoff would be perfect for any of the upcoming disney shows. I personally think that Tarzan would work best in The New Amsterdam. Don't ask me why but I think that Amsterdam would eat Mary Poppins. I just don't see it working there.
They definitely have to put a family blockbuster (which Lion King has turned out to be) into the Minskoff. Lion King has almost always been sold out and, if there were more seats they would sell more tickets. It makes complete sense to move Lion King there.
The Minskoff actually has less overall seating capacity than the New Amsterdam, but more of the higher priced orchestra seats.
Thanks for the info magruder. I had no idea!
JJ's exact statement is exactly how it will be happening, as of now.
Theatrical Index lists the New Amsterdam having 1747 seats, with an orchestra seating of 733. The Minskoff is listed as having 1710 seats, but an orchestra seating of 1108, and no balcony. So less seats, but a gain of 400 orchestra seats is a major plus.
WOW -- I had NO idea the New Amsterdam was that HUGE! I just assumed (since it was an older theatre that was restored) that it was the same size as, say, The Shubert.
I see that Playbill.com lists 1,801 seats for the New Amsterdam and 1,691 for the Minskoff. Not sure which is right, now, but you get the idea.

I strongly agree that the new amterdam theatre has VERY LITTLE leg room for the audience to put there legs. I saw Lion king twice there and, since I had an asile seat, put my legs into the asile for MORE ROOM!!
If mary poppins does move in thery need to make the asiles larger.

So even though Lion King will be making more money at the Minskoff, there will actually be fewer seats sold now?
And assuming Lion King continues to sell out, could it now surpass Wicked as the highest grossing show on broadway?

Their gross doesn't ahve to do with how many seats it has. It has to do with how much moeny they amke in advanced sales. Yes there would be more seats to book, but wicked is really popular, no pun intended, right now. (Correct em if I'm wrong about the gross thing)

The Lion King is the next to inhabit the Minskoff. Mary Poppins will inhabit the New Amsterdam. Chitty will remain in the Hilton.
I've heard that The Lion King is moving to the Minskoff.
Weekly gross and advance sales are two different things.
