When Shoshana fell into the orchestra pit at Wicked

I watched a broadway.com video today where Rondi Reed was discussing how difficult it is to perform on a raked stage. Apparently once in Wicked Shoshana Bean rolled off the stage and fell into the orchestra pit. Does anybody know what actually happened there?

ROLLED off the stage and FELL into the orchestra pit?

Shoshana told of when she got her foot tangled in the net that's above pit. But I never heard of her or anyone actually rolling and falling into the pit.

I've never heard this rumor. The stage isn't so raked that you could roll down it and into the pit. Besides, she would've been severely injured if she fell into the pit.

But that rake stage is still dangerous. The entire cast goes to massage therapists and chiropractors regularly to keep their alignment correct because the rake throws it off even though it's not an extreme rake.

I should have elaborated. This video said that Shoshana was running downstage and slipped or tripped, falling into the pit. That may have been over dramatized though and perhaps that was was the same instance where her foot was caught in the netting.

I was just talking to someone about this this afternoon.

I remember it also as she was running and "WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" right into the pit.

Question: What is the funniest stage mishap that stands out in your mind from your Wicked run?

Bean: I guess when I ran out onstage for my first entrance into Shiz and ran straight into the pit! [I was] caught by the net, of course, and no one was injured. . . but hilarious and humiliating nonetheless! Many others come to mind, but nothing can top that!

Yeah, she wasn't secured to the lift properly, and it started to rise and scared the hell out of her. Apparently she's afraid of heights, too. There was an audio recording on 'that site', but it's since been taken off. It was freaking scary to listen to. Lots of scared screaming from both Kerry and Dianne Pilkington.

Wow this could become a thread about mishaps on Broadway. Not as serious as the Elphaba accidents, but when I saw Legally Blonde, Laura Bell's wig flew off during the Bend and Snap. She responded by saying "Paulette, will you fix my hair". And (to the audience) "thank you for coming to legally bald".

Whenever I watch that song, I'm always afraid that's going to happen! Never knew it actually did. It's funny, because that cap under the wig is skin colored, so I suppose she really would look bald.

That's pretty cool of her. Apparently there was issues with the salon/chairs one day (they were moving or something out of time, maybe the transition was too lengthy) and LB also impro'd a line. (I can't do it justice but something about what have you got going on here or I didn't know you had something going on here or something, the story was on this forum).

I heard about another time when the benches didn't come in for Blood in the Water, so LBB just plopped down on the floor and smiled.



Elles seem to be prone to accidents just like Elphies. Becky Gulsvig broke her toe slipping on the stairs backstage, and then Laura Bell broke her elbow during What You Want while with the tour in Nashville and went on to perform the rest of the show.

okay so absolutely love the shoshanna falling into the pit incident. That's hysterical, how embarassing for her. I'm surprised I hadn't heard that before. lol. Also I'm loving the Laura Bell Bundy's add-lib after her wig flying off, there's not much to do but joke about it, when something like that happens. lol

September 20, 2006. I was at the performance when Shoshana 'fell' off the stage. What happened was, she ran out for her entrance before "Dear Old Shiz", lost her footing, and tripped into the orchestra pit. Before she fell completely, she was able to spin around and catch herself on the stage, so just her chest and down were below stage level, and her foot put a big hole through the tarp above the pit. The ensemble just STARED at her and after about 10 seconds Megan ran over and helped pull her up. Then the show when on as per usual like nothing happened. It was nuts, but Shoshana didn't even skip a beat, it was amazing.

I recently went to 9 to 5 and Marc Kudish flipped over in his desk chair and fell to the floor. Megan Hilty was really sure what to do and she looked at Marc and asked if he was ok and while struggling to get up he says "Nope...Im good" After that he popped up and Megan gave him a thumbs up.

Also that day, Stephanie's shoe came flying off when she is supposed to duck when Marc pretends to throw the football at her. She stumbled back onto the couch, giggled alittle, got her shoe and put it on. Then quietly joins Allison Janney and giggles alittle into her shoulder.

I saw this performance and the chairs came into the salon after the scene had already started. Laura Bell and Orfeh both looked at the chairs out of the corner of their eyes, held back their laughter, and Laura Bell said something to the effect of "Oh my Paulette, what a magical salon you have". The audience ate it up.

Not really a big mishap at all, but when i saw Legally Blonde (Saturday matinee before it opened) during "Legally Blonde" there are champagne glasses that they had just used to toast or something blablabla. Whatever, so Laura starts to sing while they are in the office and she knocks down all three glasses with her hands. She didn't even respond and all everyone(or at least me and my friend) could focus on for the first part of the song was the three champagne glasses rolling around on the floor and her not acknowledging it all.

The scene went on and ending. The scene change happened but the three glasses stayed on, because I guess someone had forgotten it, so when Andy Karl entered onstage he picked them up (as the UPS guy). The entire audience roared in laughter.

So it wasn't that funny reading it now, but a mishap nonetheless.

Laura Bell kicked one her shoes off during So Much Better into the audience twice during Legally Blonde. Also, one time before the Bend And Snap the Delta Nu girls never came up from the lift and so they starting to ad lib and start screaming for help and Orfeh said "I hear dead people".

Everytime I would see Legally Blonde, Cara Massey would always get her heel caught in the stage when she was getting off of the golf cart and fall on her ass. Well she was tipsy to begin with so she just pretended she was more tipsy...LOL.

i remember closing day of the light in the piazza, during the scene where clara just hears her mother talking on the phone about her illness and she runs around the stage towards the church, katie clarkes shoe fell off. It was such a sad momment, and bam! there goes her shoe!
