JRB, the problem, is that everyone (that i have seen post) who liked the film, seem to be ignoring the fact that it was a poorly executed movie. They all seem distracted by their ejaculations for Rent and the majority of the original 8 being in the movie.
The movie was extremely cheesey (WTF was with the desert scenes? seriously), the cutting of certain songs in the last third of the film were detrimental to the emotional impact, but beyond that, the lack of character development (we don't really get to Angel at all, so how can we be that upset about it when he dies?), the repetetion of hte CGI breath was obvious, and distracting, the film itself was very impersonal, most shots were wide shots, even in small scenes between 2 or 3 people (or even 1), the choice of camera angles in many scenes were laughable (the through the arm shots during TMOLM at the pool table? who taught the DP how do his/her job?).
Adam pascal probably shouldn't have been in the movie. He looks about 40 (not to mention like one the people from Whoville in the recent Grinch movie) plus, he's really not that great of an actor. I also agree that Anthony looked a little old for the role, but he was capable as a singer (i saw he perform live recently and his voice is still very much intact) and an actor.
I absolutely disagree with your thoughts on the film. Get. Over. It.

These aren't thoughts on the film, these are analyses of the film making. The film was poorly made, Chris Columbus, is a hack, you only liked the movie because you were too distacted by your love for rent to acknowledge anyhting being wrong with it.
I wanted, so bad, to love the movie. But i couldn't because it's a joke. A travesty of film making. Rosario, Tracy, Jesse and Wilson were all amazing, but no amount of great performances can make up for a film just being poorly made.
ZONEFACE, you are entitled to your opinion but that doesn't give you the right to force your feelings about the filmonto someone else. jrb got something out of it you didn't.
I personally had issues with the film myself but I'm not going to sit here and try to cram my views and opinions down other people's throats.
Let other people have their opinions. What's it to you in the long run?
You don't like it? GOOD. He loves it? GOOD.
MOVE ON.

These tell me I am not alone in thinking well of it. They tell me that some people did not like it--but none of these reviews were less than a C. Therefore, to think the film is far from being a train wreck is not a crazy notion.
Ah, these reviews warm my heart... :)

Zoneace--I'm not a Renthead. I am not blinded.
Your saying that your statements are not merely thoughts aka opinions, but "analyses of the film making" is a scream. Ridiculousness.
While you are getting over the fact that many people validly liked this film, try getting over yourself, too.
I just got back from seeing the film today.
I thought it was excellent. I was deeply moved by it.
I can't really judge the movie fairly though, since I'm a little "too close to home" on this. I knew Jon Larson in New York City in the mid-'80s.
I can only tell you that Jon would have been proud.
Zone Ace, don't waste your time here. You aren't forcing your opinions on anyone; that's not possible to do on a message board anyway. I know a place where you can share your thoughts with people who liked the film AND didn't like it, and actually get real feedback from both sides. No namecalling involved.

It's forcing when people like you and zone tell others they are WRONG and basically attack others who don't agree with you.
You both have over inflated opinions of yourselves regarding film.

and you have an over inflated opinion of the movie.
Well, that is your opinion. And, unlike you, I'm not trying to change other people's minds about their opinion of the film. I'm not berating people for disliking it. I'm not getting worked into a frenzy because people don't all agree with me.

Berate?
Hmm, now, mind pointing that out?
and, in a debate, isn't the point to change other peoples opinions on a certain topic? I know that's what I was taught.
You (and Evelyn) have been on the war path in several threads. You are not respecting people's genuine liking of the film. Instead of just accepting that different people like things different ways, you insult their ability to make an educated opinionof the film:
"the problem, is that everyone (that i have seen post) who liked the film, seem to be ignoring the fact that it was a poorly executed movie. They all seem distracted by their ejaculations for Rent and the majority of the original 8 being in the movie."
"These aren't thoughts on the film, these are analyses of the film making. The film was poorly made, Chris Columbus, is a hack, you only liked the movie because you were too distacted by your love for rent to acknowledge anyhting being wrong with it."
To share but two gems.

Those were not examples of berating an any interperation of the word. That was me, using colorful analogies to show what I had seen from people who loved the film.
Do try again though, you seem to have fun picking apart everything I say.
I don't care if you agree with my choice of wording. You WENT OFF on me essentially for even suggesting that the film could be good. You belittled and presupposed how I or anyone else could like the film.
And, you have a history of doing this, thus, why you and I butt heads constantly. You do not respect other people's opinions when they differ greatly from yours. Your passion for film and theatre is awesome. But, you (and others) need to learn to accept that not everyone is going to see your pov. And that doesn't make them wrong.

You just don't like me cause I find your opinions silly.
And I didn't go off on you. I demolished your opinion of the film and showed it was biased because of how you feel about the stage show.
You are just bitter. It's ok, I don't hold it against you.
1. that post is exactly what I'm talking about
2. you didn't show up any bias. you don't even know what my biases are or aren't. You don't even know what I think of the stage version.
3. I'M bitter? Oh, honey, after some of your confessional posts of late, I would say I'm clearly not the bitter human being in this discussion.
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/10/05
you are so easy JRB, god you really me get to you, don't you.
Now, the last post, yes, that was actaully a post in which I was being a condescending prick. Atleast we know you can sometimes call it right.
And by my confessional posts, what exactly do you mean? you mean the ones where I deride attention whoring flamers? Cause, that doesn't really make me so much bitter, as well, annoyed by attention whoring flamers.
Vanity really makes me want to stab people.

see, now that was funny, you do atleast have a sense of humor under all the bitterness. Which is refreshing.
