I very, very new to this... never heard of Donna Murphy until Wonderful Town and I liked her performance. I noticed quite a few people dislike her here and I'm curious to know why. Did any one meet her in person? Is she unpleasant to chat with?
She was in Passion and the recent revival of The King and I. Shes a two time Tony winner and shes excellent, but in my opinion, she just couldnt pull of the role of Ruth. She and Jennifer were excellent but they were no where near saving a dreadfully bland revival from sinking. It was just a boring show.
An excellent talent though.

I heard she's a very nice person.
The reason she's on people's bad side right now is because she's missed more than her fair share of performances in Wonderful Town. It was primarily due to illness, but it kept happening on and off at the worst times.

She was in Spiderman 2 as Rosalie Octavious, and in Center Stage as Juliet Simone, you might recognize her from those films.
Sorry, I didn't see these movies. I guess I have to catch up...
What happens when she is out? I assume there is another actor or understudy? How do they compare?
Donna is absolutely the sweetest woman to speak with about anything. She's quiet, and will answer anything you ask her in a very informative way. I think she's fantastic.
I knew of her other roles before seeing WT but had not seen her until then and she blew me away in WT every time I saw it. She's got so much life in her and is an incredibly talented woman. Her performance in that show solidified me as a fan of hers instantly.
Donna was the best Ruth Sherwood.
She is incredible.
Oh shoot, now I have to see Wonderful Town a third time.
Wow, a third time, Corine! You must really like this show a lot! Is there any way to find out when Ms. Murphy is out before going to the show? On second thought, it may be interesting to see her understudy to get another point of view too.
I just saw WT for my 4th time on Wednesday and Donna was out for vacation and Linda (her understudy) was in. If I had seen Linda the first time I would have thought she was fantastic, and she is very good, but I found myself missing Donna because I enjoyed her so much. Still, I wouldn't say "dont go if Donna's out" because Linda is absolutely worth seeing.
Donna Murphy is one of the best actresses on Broadway to
date. I especially love her in whatever character she plays.
If u want to see another movie in which she had a big part in
i recommend Star Trek:Insurrection.
As many have said on this message board, she is darling. A member from one site mentioned that he had never received so much attention from a Broadway celeb.
She is just the epitomy of beauty and grace.

She's a flea-bitten slut who will seduce your husband, fiddle with your children and steal your newspaper.
Or maybe I'm confusing her with a role she played.
musicman, are u referring to the role she played over a decade ago..... let me think.... Hello Again

I LOVE DONNA!!!! bythesword had it totally right. She epitomizes the word class and it just gushes off of her. I already owned the DVD of Passion (cuz of Marin) and thought she was incredible then I saw WT and loved her even more and got to meet her, which was sooooo cool.
Despite a few dissenting opinions and some catty, nasty people on here who can't stop trashing her, Donna received stunning reviews for Wonderful Town as did the production.
How do you know, JRB? What do you like work in the theatre or something? Man, you think you just know everything!

Donna Murphy and Tonya Pitkins are the BEST women b'way has to offer now. They both run all the other Tony nominees to the ground. Either way, both were robbed of the Tony. Although, I was rooting for Stephanie. Updated On: 7/26/04 at 01:23 AM
lol, Matt G! And, I can confirm that she is extremely nice. You can always tell who is really a talented pro in this business by how they treat the crew and front of house staff.
Does she still babysit Linda's kids the nights she's out?
Help! Who is Linda and who babysits the kids? I admit that I'm a little lost here. Matt_G and JRB you're the funniest! :)

Donna is incredibly talented...she just never ceases to amaze me. She seriously becomes the character, no matter who it is she's playing. I became an instant fan of hers the first time I ever saw WT.
And as for her as a person..she is seriously one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She gives personal time and attention to every single person at the stage door. I feel lucky to have had the chance to see her perform and chat with her numerous times!
You are ABSOLUTELY right, jrb. I worked for one of the biggest Broadway divas there are, and she treated everyone like crap. Didn't even tip the doorman! And therefore, she wasn't treated as well as she could have been, and I'm sure never is. Some people are very popular onstage, but not off (and please, the word "popular" is being used in its original context, this has nothing to do with WICKED or anyone who has ever been in it).
Its a sad, sad day when people have to clarify the use of the word "popular" on this board because of Wickedites.
