Pretty much the most awesome stunt casting ever.
That's pretty amazing.
I might have to try to do the lotto for this when I'm in the city!
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofuThere is no lotto for Xanadu. Only student rush.
This is truly brilliant stunt casting ... if it works out the way I'm hoping it will/think it has the potential to.

I can't wait to return to the show to see Goldberg!

Wow! I was going to try to catch [tos] when I first got back to school in August, but I might have to see this instead.
I am seeing it in August and am so excited I get to see whoopi she will be hilarious.
Brilliant!!! If only I could make it out to NY...
Mary Testa had a recurring role on the self titled show "Whoopi." They had most of their scenes together out on the street smoking. I'm sure they both will be hilarious together (again).

Whoopi Goldberg will join the Broadway company of Xanadu as one of the musical's scheming muses, it was announced on "The View" July 14.

Goldberg – a co-host of the ABC talk show "The View" – revealed on live TV July 14 that she would join the Broadway production in late July. Tony-nominated Xanadu cast member Mary Testa was in attendance for the live announcement. Goldberg has been cast as her sister muse Calliope/Aphrodite, currently portrayed by Jackie Hoffman.

Goldberg will join the Broadway production beginning July 29, for a six-week limited engagement through Sept. 7. Hoffman will be on leave from the production to promote the release of her album "Jackie Hoffman Live from Joe's Pub." Hoffman is scheduled to return to Xanadu Sept. 9.

"What better way to stick my toe back on to the Broadway stage than to join the amazing cast of Xanadu. It's such a fun show and is definitely my sensibility, as written by the divine Douglas Carter Beane. For me, it's going to be unbelievable," Goldberg said in a statement.

An Academy Award-winning actress, Whoopi Goldberg has appeared on Broadway in Whoopi, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (which she co-produced). In addition to earning a Grammy and Golden Globe Award, Goldberg is a Tony-winning producer of 2002's Thoroughly Modern Millie. Goldberg is also the producer of the forthcoming Broadway revival of for colored girls... starring Grammy Award winner India.Arie.

I'm trying to convince my mom to come with me, this is something that should not be missed.
Mary Testa was also a part of the ...Forum cast when Goldberg played Pseudolus.
		     			HOOooooOOOOoooRAY!!!!

Maybe now with this excitement they'll actually start selling tickets past September 21. I've told so many people to go see this show but all are asking, "why can't we buy tickets past Sep 21? Is it closing???". I have explained how blocks of tickets get released, but you know how people jump to conclusions.

I saw Whoopi at the show about a year ago and I kept on watching her reactions to everything (I was onstage), and she seemed to love the show. I am not surprised that she will be joining the cast, and I am so happy she is!
Wow. That's really inspired casting.
Guess I just decided what matinee I'll be seeing on Aug. 17 before the final performance of A Chorus Line. Xanadu at 3pm, A Chorus Line at 6:30pm.
Gah! I wish I could see this! I'm counting on all of you to post detailed descriptions here so I can live vicariously through you.

Based on her performance in ...Forum, I would venture a guess that Goldberg will be doing (and will probably be encouraged to do) all sorts of ad-libs. The running time of this show may increase by a few minutes!!!

I just got my onstage ticket for the 30th Matinee. I've asked this before, but didn't get an answer: does anyone know if Cheyenne will be back to the role by then since Damn Yankees will be over? I am so excited. I already had my ticket for the 30th and then watched the View and just about freaked out. Can not wait!
